Herbert Smith of were: Ruth and Debbie Munroe, THE GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY of Mr. end Mrs. Herbert Smith of 237 SE Pitzer St. was celebrated at the home of their son-in-law and daughter. Dr. and Mrs. A.B. Munroe, July 23. The honored couple are pictured above with their anniversary cake. ' 237 SE Pitzer St., wore guests of nonor in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. A. B. Munroe, at their home in the Green district Tuesday. The occasion was an open house in cel ebration of the Smiths' golden wed ding anniversary. The Munroe home was tasteful ly decorated with seasonal flowers. A beautiful tiered wedding cake, a punch bowl and lovely flowers graced the dining table. The cake had been made and decorated by Mrs. Elvin Woods, a family friend. Mr. and Mrs. Smith wore corsage ana ; Doutonmore i ot gold-colored carnations. The Smiths ' came to Itosebur Glendale, Calif.; Carol Prince, Her miston; Terry Webb, Battle Ground, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Matula with Rickie, Karen and Kiin, Eugene; and Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Jennings, Washington, D.C. Roseburg guests werj Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Munroe, Mr. and Mrs. Elton Hansen and Tern, Air. and Mrs. Kenneth Case, Mrs. Edvthe Landis. MUn- churches, as well as industrial roe. buildings, were on his list of con tracts, lie did a large amount of work in the building of the Rose burg Junior Academy auditorium on Military and Umpqua. He also donated more than 1,000 hours in the building of the new Seventh day Adventist Church on Garden Valley Boulevard. He still does some carpenter work, and M r s. Smith still gives music lessons to a lew children. 1 lie Smiths have one daughter. Florence, (Mrs. Munroe) who is a graduate nurse, Many friends came during the course of the afternoon to bring greetings ot congratulations to the honored couple. A few friends were invited to spend an evening of vis iting and enjoy a program of old fashioned songs and poems. Mr. and Airs, bmmi ana KicKie, Karen and Kim Matula sang. Mrs. Mun roe, Cheryl and Dennie, Debbie Munroe, Rickie Matula provided instrumental solos. Miss Ruth Mun roe read a eulogy to the Smiths which had been written by her father, Clarence Munroe. Mrs. ti mer Hitchn.an, by request, sang two songs, the words of which had been written by Munroe. Mr. Smith's oldest sister, M's. H. G. Thurston (Aunt Jessie) who is 93 years of age, closed the evening's program by reciting a poem. Besides Mrs. Thurston and ner H J i Officers And Their Wives Have Luau A pre-camp party was enjoyed by the top three grades of non commissioned officers of Co. B, 162nd Infantry Regiment of the Oregon National Guard and their wives. The party, a luau was held Sat urday evening at the home of Sgt. and Mrs. Lee D. Emery. The Emery patio was decorated with flowers and candles, and Ha waiian music lent a true Polyne sian atmosphere to the lovely par ty. Leis were given to each guest as he arrived. Candy Emery danc ed two authentic Hawaiian danc es during the evening. Visiting and games followed the potluck supper. , Attending were Sgt. and Mrs. Gene Olson. Sat. and Mrs. Dirk Kruysman, Sgt. and Mrs. Walt Murray, Sgt. and Mrs. Gary Kirk, Sgt. and Mrs. J. R. Mote, Sgt. and Mrs. Jim Christianson, Sgt. and Mrs. Aubrey Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Clair Von hchruiz. Veterans Picnic Given At Park The Veterans of World War I, Douglas Barracks 176, and Auxil iary, enjoyed a picnic at Stewart Park recently. Convention reports were given, and plans were made for the D i s t r i c t 7 meeting in October, with Douglas Barracks as hosts. The group sent greetings to Henry Goodmanson, commander of the barracks, who is a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Port land. About 50 attended the picnic. Potluck Enjoyed By Organ Society The Roseburg Hammond Organ Society recently held a potluck dinner meeting at the lovely home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fredrick son on Quail Lane. About 30 members and guests were present to enjoy the affair. J. Young, on SE Flint St. John, who is the son of Mr, and Mrs. A. A. Young of Reno, Nev., formerly of ' Sutherlin, has spent many of his vacations here as a boy with his grondmot'her and his grandfather the late , former Mayor Young. In this lovely setting a delicious potluck dinner was served to a large group of former pupils of the little white schoolhouse. Visit ing and reminiscing rounded out the interesting afternoon. Potluck Enjoyed At Edson Home The lovely backyard of the How ard Edson home in Glendale was the scene of a Church of Christ sponsored potluck dinner and fel lowship period held Sunday after noon. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Place, Mr. and Mrs. Don Blakely and sons; Mrs. Louise Stein, Bob Miller, C- E. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Wally Peterson, the pastor and wife; and the host cou ple, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Edson. Married In July Dennis Aaron Yarbrough and Ju lie Beth Mills, both of Grants Pass, were married in the office of Glen dale Justice of the Peace Jack Day July 11. Witnesses were Perry L. The wedding has been planned for next June 21. j Turpin Descendents Meet For Reunion At Drain Park Everyone attending said - it was one of the best reunions enjoyed since the first get-together at the Brockway School Centennial in 1955. At that time it was decided to meet every year on the first Sunday in August.
