McKay Drugs 9 Wins Two Tilts McKay Drugs regained their winning ways by defeating the Vets Employes in a doubleheader m YMCA Twilight League Softball action Saturday night. McKays won the opener 8-6 and came back to sweep the second game 16-4. McKays got a shot in the arm with the return of Dick Hessel gesser, who pitched and won the second game and who blasted a home run in the first contest. Oth er hitting leaders for the winners in the first game were VanZanden with three for three and Tucker with a double. For the Vets Employes in the first game, Ford blasted a grand slam home run and Gaines tripled. In the second game. Ford went two for four and Pearson hit a home run. For McKays in the second game, Hawes went three for four, Van Zanden went three for four, includ ing a homer, Hesselgesser went three for four, including a triple, John Pardon went three for five, Troy Fennell went two for four and McClure and Perry each had two for five. Thurs., July 25, 1963 The Newt-Review, Roseburg, Ore. 7 First Christian Loses Two Tilts The First Christian Church suf fered two consecutive losses in Church League Softball action, dropping a close 8-6 decision to the BLM Saturday and then being swamped 18-5 by North Roseburg Tuesday. In Saturday's game, the BLM came up with four big runs in the top of the sixth inning to move out in front, then pushed in. a final tally in the seventh to claim the win. Dave Daniels was the win ning pitcher. Dick Traylor led the BLM with 2 for 5 at bat, while Mike Fenner led First Christian with 3 for 4, including a home run. Tuesday night, after trailing 4-2 at the end of four innings, North Roseburg took advantage of sev eral First Christian errors and pounded out 10 hits during the last three innings to push in 16 runs. John Bodine was the winning pitcher. John Reiniker led the North Roseburg hitters with four hits in five trips to the plate Highlight for the First Christian squad was a pair of back-to back homers by Fitzgerald and Bob Schindler in the third inning. Yankiettes Drop first Game 16-15 The newly-organized Yankiettes, sponsored bv S&S Builders Supply nlaved their first same Tuesday afternoon and dropped a 16-15 de cision to Tcnmile. In the first inning Cathy Puck ett put the Yankiettes out in front by belting out a grand-slam home run, but Tcnmile came back with two hits and a homer by Judy Huff. The Yankiettes' big inning came in the sixth, when four consecutive hits and a homer by Linda Coats put them within one run ot len mile.
