The latest list of "why don't they?" from a consumer consult ant panel arrived on Uiis desk to day. The women offered sugges tions ranging from a plea for soup without onions to man-sized paper handkerchiefs packaged in masculine looking containers. National Family Opinion, Tole do, Ohio, compiled these "why don't they?" from letters written by the women, consultants. The firm says it has 85,000 home- GAS V APPLIANCE DEALER DIRECTORY CAS RANGES Btrgh'l Appl. . 672-1661 Firestone Srora ' 672-3356 Horn's Appliance , 673-5513 Montgomery Ward & Co 672-4811 Phll'l Appliance 672-1700 Sears Roebuck 1 Co 6734673 South Stephens Hdwe s, Appl 672-3751 Western Auto Assoc. One woman wondered why there weren't more of the popular soups made without onions for those who cannot eat the "tasty" little fellows. The one who wanted the man sized paper hankies indicated the packaging of most of those now available are in feminine looking boxes. Other "why don't they?" re quests: Make a spray can dispenser for grease and oil to be used for baking purposes. Cloth Bags Put flour in cloth bags as they used to. The cloth was use- flour was gone. Make elastic that will last as long as the garments that it is sewn into. Package lard and other short enings in pre-mcasured units, as they do for butter and marg- I arine. Use lubes to pack butter or margarine for picnic and travel use to simplify sandwich-making. Package individual servings of instant tea or coffee. The writ er suggested such packages would be easy to carry to work and with a little saccharine also en closed in the container, a boon to dieters. Eliminate Glan Make windshield wipers of black metal only. At certain an gles of the sun and car, sun re flection on chromium is blinding. Put non-metal, perhaps plas tic, stocking fasteners on gridles because many persons are allerg ic to metals. invent a better tooth paste tube. With a family of "middle squishcrs" something new would be welcome. Make a clear plastic foot feed on the sewing machine so one can see when the bobbin thread is al most gone. Fit upright freezers with roll i out baskets on the shelves. If a freezer is at all full, frozen packages continually slide o u t iwhen the freezer door is opened. Arrange the stocks of super ! markets so that eggs, butter, '. frozen products and bread can be ! picked up last. Having these first on a shopper's rounds forces him or her to rush so that frozen foods won't thaw before being un- : packed at home and constant i product shifting to keep bread 1 from being crushed under other purchases. For the first time youngsters who get welfare aid will be able to keep part of the money they earn for special needs such as ed ucation.
