(UPI) Pro moter Al Bolan announced today there will be a "complete sellout" of all 7,691 paid seats Monday night for the Sonny Liston-Floyd Patterson heavyweight title fight at the Convention Center. He said the gross gate for this return 15-round fight should ap proach $300,000 and set a new Ne vada record for fights. Both champion Sonny Liston, 30, and ex-champ Patterson, 28, were scheduled for their final news conferences today. Big Sonny, who won the title from Floyd on a first-round knock out at Chicago last Sept. 25, planned to take a brief workout today at the Thundcrbird Hotel before his conference. Because Sonny was so destruc tive at 214 pounds in Chicago, he plans to scale about the same at Saturday's weigh-in. The Nevada State Athletic Com mission announced late Friday that the safety rule providing a knockout defeat for any fighter floored three times in one round would be waived for this fight. As champion Sonny tapered off training today, he disclosed he had slapped contender Cassius Clay's face in the Thunderbird Hotel's game room on Thursday when Cassius called Sonny "a chump not a champ." Benton Is Favored 13-10 Over Thomas NEW YORK (UPI) Tough George Benton of Philadelphia, a middleweight fighting out of his class, was a 1310 favorite to beat Allen Thomas of Chicago tonight in their nationally televised bout at Madison Square Garden. Benton, the filth ranking mid dleweight, will be conceding only five pounds or so when he tangles with Thomas, the 10th ranking light heavyweight who is unde feated in his last 19 bouts. At 30 Benton is eight years old er than Thomas, but that is not expected to be a handicap. Neith er is the weight concession, for Benton owns 27 kayocs among his 47 victories. He has lost eight times and fought one draw. Ben ton, too. has been 'v'nning bouts at a fast clip of late, scoring 11 victories in his last 12 starts. Thomas is not as strong as Ben ton but is fast and knows how to box. He started his professional career with a draw and a defeat and then won his next 19 fights. In his two most recent matches, he outpointed Johnny Alford and knocked out Sixto Rodriguez in the ninth round. Benton lost his only bout of 1963 on a split decision to Rubin (Hur ricane) Carter, the No. 3 middle weight. "I'll win it if I shoot par from here on in," predicted the 27- year-om Hinsdale, III., assistant pro, wno went into todays third round of the 45th annual rOA tournament leading the surviving field of 83 players by three strokes. He knew there were plenty of golfers behind him who could get hot as the Texas heat and beat him out. "I'm in front of them," he said. "They have to catch me."
