Newspaper Page TextTight Games Seen In Pee Wee Play Tight games were the rule rather than the exception in Tuesday's round of Pee Wee baseball action in Roseburg. In the Midget League (8-9 ace bracket) the Fullerton Cougars kept their undefeated string intact by nipping the Eastwood Bulldogs, 5-3. Tom Hcnnebeck handled the pitch ing and helped his own cause by driving in four runs with two tri ples. The Winchester Wildcats also ad vanced without a defeat by tup ping the previously unbeaten Riv erside Tigers,2-1. Stan Wilborn sin led in Riverside's lone tally, while Casey Keller slapped a round tripper with a man on base in the bottom of the third for the Wild cats. In other Midget League games, Dennis Grovcr tossed a no-hitter as the High School Braves bombed the Green Rams, 20-0, and the Riv erside Yankees posted a 13-5 tri umph over the Winchester wolves. Minor League (10-11 age group) action saw the Fullerton Cubs topple the Eastwood Vikings, 9-1 to remain undefeated. Duke Do Bernardi twirled a nifty one-hitter for the Cubs third consecutive win, Winchester's Senators kept pace with the Cubs by downing the Riv erside Indians, 5-1. Mike Avery came up with his second straight no-hitter for the winners. Also in the Minor League, and High School Dodgers picked up their first win of the season by tripping the High School Pirates, 4-3. Other games found Ron Morrison collecting a double, a triple and a home run to lead the Riverside An gels to a 13-6 triumph over the Winchester White Sox, the Fuller ton Mets lost an 11-2 decision to the Eastwood Athletics and the! Eastwood Owls slopped the Fuller- ton Colts. 6 3. The High School Giants and the Winchester Red Sox remained un defeated in Major League (12-13 age bracket) action. The Giants won a 13-7 decision from the Green Huskies and the Red Sox toppled the Fullerton Phillies, 4-0. In the third game in this division, the Eastwood Orioles nipped the rul lerton Reds, 3-2. Chris Cave was the winning pitch er for the Giants, while Gary Be vill shutout the Huskies. Bill Shinn hit a home run and Gordon Smith doubled in three runs for Winches ter. During the day a putt tourna ment for guests was held, with Eunice Lemon taking top honors with 17 putts, while Botty Clark and Mary Beamer each took 19. Annabelle Nelson received a prize for the high number of putts. A total of 3o women participated In the action, with many of them being recent graduates of the golf lessons offered at Stewart Park. The SPWGA Is conducting a tour nament tour during the summer with special events held every other Tuesday. On the agenda for the season is atring and point handi caps, a three-club event, even-hole play and a consolation tourney. SPWUAmembers are currently making plans for their fall Handi cap Tournament scheduled for Sep tember. The leading team shot the low team gross score of 164, and had the low team net total of 136. Gerry Hcnnebeck of Byrd's Market had the low individual gross total, a 38, and Wcs Kurd of the Drive-N-Save Market team took low indi vidual net honors with a 33. In the Thursday division. Signs (North Eugene) in both ends of a counting twin-bill. The double victory by Lockwood Motors, combined with Spring field's triumph over Pitchford's South Eugene), moved the local crew a full four games out in front in the current standings. Spring field jumped into second place with a 6-4 record, while ItoseburK sports a pencci iu-u marK. Dick Williams turned in a bril liant mound performance in Wed nesday's opener as he shut out the invaders, 6-0. on a four-hitter. In the nightcap Ran Cool tossed a two-hitter to post a 7-1 victory. Williams scattered four hits over four innings and issued only one free pass while striking out 10. The only time more than one batter reached base in any one inning was in the final frame when a walk and a single put two men on the sacks. Cool, in recording his ninth vic tory against no losses, had streaks of control trouble in the early in nings, but escaped before serious damage could be done. The flashy southpaw struck out 11, was tagged for a double and a single and walked four batters. Mike Markham and Jim Beamer in 2-3 record with both hits being two- baggers.
