Sutherlin Garden Club Installs New Officers Each year the Sutherlin Garden Club brings its fiscal year to a close with the June meeting and has a luncheon - installation party, at which time the emphasis is on fun and fellowship. This year Mrs. Ft. R. League and Mrs. Harold Hatch er were hostesses at the very de lightful luncheon held at the Rose burg Country Club on Friday. The horse-shoe shaped table was beau tifully decorated with five crystal epergncs in graduated sizes which held massed circlets of roses of golden hue with a pale yellow taper in the center. Trailing sprays of tiny leaved ivy between the ep ergncs gave an overall coordinated effect. The color scheme of pale yellow and white was carried out in the napkins and the favors which were small -"Flower Garden" guests soaps tied with yellow bows. Lovely bouquets of roses graced the coffee table and the small ta bles about the room. Following the luncheon, Mrs. R. R. League presided at the short business meet ins, at which time delegates to the State Convention were instructed to support Mrs. Grandt of the North Coast district for Vice President of the OFGC and to go on record as being against any raise in dues to the Stale, thus supporting the other clubs in the Umpqua District. Mrs. .1. D. Bailey was appointed chair man of the Float committee for the Timber Days celebration with Mrs. Lee Williams as co-chairman. A letter of resignation from Mrs. Bud Holm, who had recently been elected to the office of director was read and accepted with regret. Mrs. Pat Walling was elected to fill the vacancy. Mrs. C. J. Bielman. past presi dent and also past district director, conducted the impressive installa tion ceremony. Installed were: Mrs. C. R. Brittain, president; M r s. Frank McCord, vice president; Mrs. Dwight Beck, secretary; Mrs. Lee Williams, treasurer; Mrs. Har old Hatcher, director for two years and Mrs. Pat Walling, director for one year. Each was presented with a lovely corsage made by Mrs. Bielman and pinned by Mrs. Bail ey. Mrs. R. R. League, retiring president spoke briefly to mem bers, thanking them for their won derful cooperation and support dur ing her term. She then presented each member with a copy of "New Pronouncing Dictionary of Plant Names" as a token of appreciation. At the April meeting, the club voted that each president should receive the history scrapbook made during her term of office and these wore presented to each past president at this time. Those receiving hooks were; Mrs. C. J. Bielman, Mrs. H. K. Halvorsen, Mrs. 0. L. Torrey, Mrs. H. V. Church. Mrs. .1, D. Bailey. A book was not made the first year the club was organized and Mrs. Bud Holm was president. The book that Mrs. League will receive is pres ently at the headquarters of the State Convention to bo judged. A rose quiz game was then play ed with Mrs. J. D. Bailey and Melrose Group Enjoys Luncheon Mrs. G. G. Graves was hostess recently to the Melrose Friendly Hour Club at- a dessert luncheon. A short business meeting was held in the afternoon. Mrs. Roland Cheek was in charge of the pro gram. Several members brought various projects to work on. Present were the Mesdames M. F. Kimmct, 0. F. Stringer and Mildrcn; Roland Cheek, Mark and Cheri; D. O. Bly, C. A. Coffell. Fred Miller, Grace Fenn. Amy See ley and G. G. Graves, the hostess. Mrs. Dwight Beck tying for first Halvorsen, Mrs. Harold Hatcher, for having the most correct an- Mrs. Wayne Hoobler, Mrs. L. T. swers, so they received first and 'Johnson, Mrs. Bard Kesncr, Mrs. second prizes. Mrs. C. J. Bielman Frank McCord, Mrs. W. M. Thomp then presented Mrs. League with a : son, Mrs. Lee Williams, Mrs. Pat lovely corsage and a check, gilt Walling, Mrs. Paul Gucrretlaz from the club members. Members present were: Mrs. J. D. Bailey, Mrs. D. W. Beck, Mrs. C. i. Bielman, Mrs. C. R. Brit tain, Mrs. Margaret Champie, Mrs. H. V. Church, Mrs. J. M. Francis, Mrs. H. R. Geider, Mrs. H. K. Mrs. R. R. League and Mrs. Har old Hatcher. Mrs. O. L. Torrey, Mrs. 0. C. Nicholson of Easton, Maine, and Mrs. Frank Ashley were guests. Mrs. Nicholson is a daughter of Mrs. Briltian. ?ii- v ear Hogging It!
