HITCHMAN, above, were honored ot a surprise affair on their 45th wedding anniver sary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Woods, Melrose Road, Saturday evening. The Hitchmans are pictured above with their beautifully decoroted tiered anniversary cake. Surprise Party Given Hitchmans Mr. and Mrs. Elmer llitchman, N. W. Harlan, were guests of hon or at a surpriso 45lli anniversary parly in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Klvin Woods on Melrose Road Sat urday night. Tho evening's activi ties began with a vesper service led by Dr. Ralph Pearson. A short proKrum followed, which included poems by Dr. and Mrs. Pearson and a song "Because" by the Hitchmans' youngest daughter, Mrs. Allen Chellis, of Seattle. By special request Mrs. llitrhman anil her daughter sang "Whispering Hope." The evening was spent in visiting with the friends who had gathered. Mrs. Woods had baked and dec orated a beautiful cake fur the oc casion. Tho Hitchmans came to Rose burg in the spring of 1M5 and have been here since then. They have 24 grandchildren. Varitees Club Has Recent Meet ! The Varitees Club met Wednes. jday, with Mary Lane as hostess. Alter a short meeting, delicious refreshments were served to Mar. (Picture by Chris' Studio of Photography). k A vanoram Weddinq A very lovely wedding took place at the Roseburg Seventh day Ad ventist Church Thursday evening, June 6, uniting in marriage Jo anne (Jodi) Aletha Miller and Dr. John Edred Manoram. The date was chosen to honor the ninth birth day of her sister, Marlene. The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Miller of Rose burg, and the bridegroom is the son of Elder and Mrs. Charles Man oram of Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, West Indies. Candelabra, with white tapers, and flanked by large baskets of pink and white gladioli provided a pretty setting for the impressive candlelight ceremony, performed by Elder II. S. Miller, grandfather of the hride. This is Elder Miller's first attendance at the marriage of his relatives. He is 88 years old. Tcrri Hansen of Roseburg, or ganist, played the wedding music. Karen Lindcman of Ketchikan, Alaska," sang, ''Because." Bernio Paulson of Roseburg sang, "The Lord's Prayer." Given in marriage by her par ents, the bride was radiant in a gown of Chantilly laco over bridal satin. The bodice was laco covered, except for tho midriff. The sleeves wero of lace, and buttons were at bath the wrists and back. The gown's lace ended in back in a brush train. Her fingertip-length veil of French silk illusion was held in place by a large satin rose. The wedding gown and veil wero designed and fashioned by the bride. Her corsage bouquet of , stephanotis and two white orchids j was held in place ny wmio rmnon streamers. 1 Anita Pearson, long-time class-1 mate of the bride, was the only attendant. She wore a street. length dress of green flowered brocade and a headpiece fashioned after the bride's. She carried an arrange ment of pink gladioli with white throats. The bride attended elementary school in Roseburg and was gradu ated from Milo Academy, after which she took pre-nursing at Wal la Walla College and has spent the past two years at the clinical di vision of the college at the Port land Sanitarium in Portland. She will begin her senior studies after returning to Portland. The bridegroom attended high school in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and look his college course at Cam bridge, England, and Pacific Un ion College, Angwin, Calif. He took the medical course at Loma Lin da University and was graduated in 1902. He is completing his intern ship at the Portland Sanitarium. Weekly Play Takes Place The Roseburg Bridge Club held master point play Friday at the Umpqua Hotel. High score was held by Mrs. O. R. Petersen and Mrs. E. N. Kaser Jr.; second, Mrs. Walter Ulrich and Mrs. H. E. Le Beau; third, Mrs. W. F. Forrest and Mrs. W. L. Tozer; and fourth, Mrs. F. E. Gleeson and Mrs. R. B. Rummcl. Individual play was held Tues day. Winners were Mrs. W. C. Ul rich, first; Mrs. R. B. Rummel, second; and a tie for third, Mrs. J. A. Little and Mrs. W. I. Ed monds. The Rose Bridge Club met Wed nesday afternoon. Winners were Mrs. J. V. Short and Mrs. W. C. Callison, first; Mrs. H. N. Butler and Mrs. A. D. Fisher, second; and a three-way tie for third between Mrs. L. L. Linaman and Mrs. Al bert Morene. Mrs. W. L. Tea In Salem Friday Event The beautiful home of Governor and Mrs. Mark O. Hatfield at 833 State St., SE. in Salem, was the scene of a charming tea Friday honoring Oregon Girls State mem bers and Oregon Press Women. Flowers were everywhere, inside and out. and were artistically ar ranged throughout. The formal garden surrounding the home in cluded mass plantings of Eliza beth azaleas across the front, with deep borders of rhododendrons and azaleas in purple, lilac and laven der shades interspersed for sum mer bloom by bright red geran iums. Roses also abound in the garden and a yellow tree rose in a planter stands at the right of the front door. Because of Mrs. Hatfield's hos pitalization, the Governor himself and his charming mother greeted the 250 Oregon Girls State mem bers and the Press Women. "I do hope this will be a success for it is my first tea," quipped (he Gover nor, who .went on to state if it was it was because it had been en tirely arranged and planned by his wife. The tea table was very lovely with a high compote filled with pale blue carnations and deep cream-colored slock. Guests re ported the affair to be perfect in cverv detail. The 4 p.m. double ring cere mony took place at the First Pres byterian Church in Roseburg, the Rev. John Adams officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Meehan of this city. She was graduated from Roseburg High School and attend ed University of Montana at Mis soula where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She is cur rently attending Southern Oregon College at Ashland. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Bernie Lange and Thomas Elliott, both of Lakeview. He was graduated from high school in Lakevicw and from SOC. He is employed as manager of Oak Knoll Golf Course at Ashland. Decorations at the church includ ed white gladioli and daisies in floor baskets and the traditional candelabra. The aisle bows were white satin decorated with orange blossoms and apricot colored tulle. Soloist was Danny Fromdahl, who sang "0 Perfect Love" and "Wedding Prayer." The bride's father gave her in marriage. She was lovely in her wedding gown of white organza, which was fashioned with a full length bouffant skirt with chapel train. The lace bodice had a round neckline and long pointed sleeves which came to points at the wrists. She wore a fingertip veil which was secured by a pearl-studded petal-type headdress. Her only jewelry was a pearl necklace, a family heirloom and a gift from Hie bridegroom. The bridal bou quet was a white orchid in a clus ter ot stephanotis, .Mrs. Frank Webster Jr. was matron of honor for her sister.
