Local News Mr. Emtry Wheeler left this week for her home in Washington DC, following a week here visit ing her cousin, .Mrs. John Young, on SE Watson St. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Collins and children are back at their home on SE Blakeley Ave., following a va cation trip to Disneyland and other points of interest in Southern Cali fornia. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jenkins are back at their home, following a trip to Seattle to visit. They were accompanied home by the latter's sister, Mrs. L. M. Nelson, who will visit here for a time. Monica Lynn, weighing 6 pounds H ounce, was born June 12 in Lon don, England, to Mr. and Mrs. Mi chael Dunn. Grandparents of the baby are Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Dunn of Roseburg and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Phillips of Watsonville, Calif. Mrs. Homer Pattison, who has been at Mayo's Clinic in Rochester, Minn., returned to her home in Roseburg Tuesday. She was met in Portland by her husband, who brought her home. While back east, Sirs. Pattison visited a sister in Manasses, Va., and called on the R. Kleinfeldt family, who live there now. The Rev. Mr. Kleinfeldt is a former minister of the First Chris tian Church in Roseburg. David Liwis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lewis of this city, will leave June 22 for six weeks of ad vanced ROTC training at Ft. Lew is, Wash. He is currently spending a brief vacation at home following completion of his junior year at Oregon State University. After his tour at Ft. Lewis, David will be employed for the remainder of the summer with the Douglas County road department. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Watson of Los Angeles have left for their home following a month's visit in Oregon. They visited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack May, and went with them to their float house at Siltcoos Lake to spend a few days. While in the coastal area they visited at Coos Bay with Mrs. Watson's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Harper. En route home, the Watsons planned to stop en route to visit relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. George Frew of Roseburg have been enjoying a vis it by relatives for several days. The former's brother, Robert Les lie Frew, whom he had not seen for 52 years, arrived from his home in Washington D.C. and an other brother, Andrew Frew, of Geneseo, III., whom he had not seen for IS years. Also here was his sister, Mrs. H. J. Smith, and neph ew, Carlyle, of Bluffton, S.C. The party had visited relatives all the way from South Carolina to Cali fornia. They spent some time with the George Frews' daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rich; with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Smith, and her daughter, Mrs. Richard Cumraings, and her family, all in California. They left Sunday for Milwaukie, Ore., to visit the George Frews' son and daughter-in-law, Sir. and Mrs. Chester Frew, and family. From there the visitors left for their homes via Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Warrtn T. Cloake will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, June 23, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at the First Con servative Baptist Church, 1138 NE Lincoln St. Relatives and friends are invited. The Cloakes have re quested that there be no gifts. Louie Sweety of Winston was called to Tracy, Minn., by the death of his brother, Emery. He left here Tuesday and was joined at Pasco, Wash., by his sister, Mrs. Arthur Mian, and at Spokane by another sister, Mrs. Gay Roberts.' Emery Sweely died Monday. Miss Gladys H. Strong, state membership chairman, and Cloyd Riffe, secretary of the state board, both of Roseburg, are participating in the bi-annual four-day conven tion of the Oregon Music Teachers Association being held on the Uni versity of Oregon campus in Eu gene this week. Also attending from the Roseburg district were Mr. and Mrs. S. Clarence Trued, and Mrs. Albert Tilche, Myrtle Creek music teacher. Mitt Anita Pearson, student nurse at the Seventh-day Adventist Medical training center in Loma Linda, Calif., has been spending some time here visiting her par ents, Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Pearson, on SE Terrace Drive. Soon after her return to the University she will be going with a group of doctors and nurses from the medical school to spend several weeks in Mexico giving help to some of the needy people there. Mrs. D. W. Duvall returned to Roseburg Thursday morning fol lowing a trip to Provo, Utah, to see her son, John, receive his Ph. D degree in chemistry at Brig ham Young University. Mrs. Duvall visited in Utah with an aunt, Mrs. Ella Stringham, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis LeFevre, before returning with her son to his home in Lara mie, Wyo. She stayed a few days with John and his family before returning home. John Duvall is a chemist at the U. S. Petroleum Research Center in Laramie. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dent and Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Dunn of this city spent the weekend and Monday in Crescent City, Calif., where they attended the high school com mencement exercises, at which time the Dents' granddaughter, Nita Dent, and Marian Van Der Bijl of Capetown, S. Africa, were graduated. Alarian has spent the school year at the Dent home. She will leave in a week on a month's tour of the United States and will then return to her home in Capetown. Dr. and Mrs. Delbert Parks and daughters of Garberville Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Bramlett of College Place, Wash., were in Roseburg over the weekend to at tend- the wedding of Bernadine Paulson and Jerry Yost at the Sev enth-day Adventist Church. Mrs, Parks, (Darlene) and Mrs. Bram lett (Lynette) are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nelson, who re side on West Elm St. and are cous ins of the bride. Both are former students of Roseburg Junior Acad emy. r-M- -..rf.v.- - ---'- 1 THIS GIANT 4-H CLOVER was formed this week by the 1800 Oregon 4-H club members attending the 48th annual 4-H Summer School at Oregon Stote University, The one-week training program is one of the largest in the nation. Courses cover home economics, ag riculture, forestry, leadership, traffic safety, creative arts and other subjects of special interest ond concern for youths. There are 74 4-H members attending from Douglas County. High School Post Filled At Oakland William P. Ambrose from Chand ler, Ariz., has been hired as prin cipal of Oakland High School, ac cording to an announcement today by Supt. Cecil Barnett. He will replace Darrell Langevin who is leaving to study for his doctorate at the University of Oregon. Ambrose has been attending the University of Arizona working to ward his doctor's degree in educa tion. He has held a position in the Chandler school system and was a former member of the staff at Ce darville College in Cedarville, Ohio. He previously taught in the Green Springs, Ohio, public school system and attended Bob Jones Univer sity at Greenville, S.C. He receiv ed his master's degree at Western Reserve University at Cleveland, Ohio. He is married and has six chil dren ages 6 to 14. The family will arrive in Oakland in July. Oakland schools now have all their teachers for the coming year with the exception of a band di rector and biology teacher. New teachers hired include Er- win Hill, and his wife, Colleen, from Lewiston, Idaho. Both attend ed the University of Idaho. They will teach sixth and second grades respectively. Mrs. Dollie Scott will teach first grade and Janice Woolscy the fifth grade, uoin are aiso irom icwis ton. Mrs. Joanne Rose, coming from Missoula, Mont., will teach Span ish and English at the high school. Many subjects of interest are cov- RFD Adopts New Policy For Burning Of Trash The Roseburg Rural Fire Depart ment, has adopted -a new policy which will enable residents. of the district to obtain 12-month permits fo- burning trash in approved in cinerators. In the past, residents of the dis trict have been required to obtain special permission to burn trash each time they wanted to burn. The new permits will eliminate the need for permission each time. Permits will be issued to resi dents whose incinerators have been inspected by the Rural Fire De partment Fire Marshal Harry llarryman. The permits will not he good during dry summer periods or at other times when public no tice is given mat all burning is prohibited. Residents wishing to obtain such a permit are asked to call OK J 5503 to have their incinerators in spected, or for any other open fires. Persons burning trash with out a permit will he in violation of the National Board of Fire Under writers code, which was adopted here Dec. 3, 19fi2. Hucrest Church Books Speaker The Rev. T. M. Paulson, gen eral director of World Missions to Children, will be the guest speak er at the 11 a.m. worship service of the Hucrest Church of The Chris tian and Missionary Alliance this Sunday. The Rev. Mr. Paulson has for number of years been a mis sionary of the WMC in Japan, and in the past few months has been called home to the mission head quarters, located in Grants Pass, to assume the responsibilities of the general director's office. This office was vacaten ny tne nev. r.. V. Steele, who resigned because of illness. Paulson with information from the mission fields, will also be sharing some of the plans for fur ther "outreaen ' by tne wona mis sions to Children.
