Opposing the Clowns will be the hard hitting Brooklyn Stars. While the stars can't quite match the Clowns when it comes to comedy, they provide formidable opposition at the game of baseball. Both teams are touring Negro clubs which have built up a repu tation as proving grounds for ma jor league prospects. The Clowns boast the only midg- ct ball player in professional com petition in the form of Billy Vaughn. Vaughn stands 4-5 and tips the scales at less than 100 pounds. The 19-year old midget is set to open at short-slop for the Clowns. Vaughn serves as the straight man for many of the comedy rou tines, teaming with Natureboy Wil liams. Williams is a natural "ham," but is also a topflight ball player. Several major league players have come up through the ranks of the Clowns, with one of the most famous being Hank Aaron of the Milwaukee Braves. The Clowns have won the Negro World Championship four times, Last year the Clowns built up a record of 131 wins against 29 losses, playing against all classes of op BILLY VAUGHN . . . midget diamond star. Saturday's game will begin at 8 p.m. The exhibition tilt is being sponsored by the Roseburg Indian Club, with the proceds being used by the club to help finance various activities beneficial to athletics in the Roseburg school system. Lumberjills Down Creswell By 17-0 In Opening Game Roseburg's Lumberjills opened the season with a lopsided 17-0 triumph over the Creswell girls team at Creswell. Brenda Solnicka paved the way for the victory with a brilliant one hitter. Miss Solnicka struck out 12 and walked three as she was in complete control from start to fin ish. Her teammates backed her with errorless fielding. Heavy hitting was provided for the Lumberjills by Judy Zeigler and Rexi Nicholson who blasted triples, while Joanne Davenport connected for a pair of two-baggers. Jean Sork and Sue Weber each collected three" hits In four appearances at the plate. The Lumberjills, sponsored by Paul Jackson's Wholesale, will head south for their next game, taking on Eagle Point at the Camp White diamond June 15. Benson-Eastwood Registration Set Registration for Pee Wee and Babe Ruth baseball in the Benson Eastwood areas will be held Thurs day and Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Eastwood school.
