Not present Seniors Honored Sunday Evening Graduating seniors were honored at the youth meeting at the Fine Grove church Sunday evening. The group from Glide- High School in cluded Grace Carol Smith, Velma Stone, Karen Zimmerman, Kay Kinyon and Terry Anderson; and Sandra Counts of Roseburg High School. An interesting program was also presented. Velma Stone read a poem, Lee and Don Bailey gave an instrumental duet, and Grace Carol Smith, Karen Zimmerman and Velma Stone sang. A round table discussion entitled, "Where Do We Go From Here?" was held, with Don and Lee Bail ey and Gayle Smith participating. The challenge to the seniors was given by Mrs. Roy Kinyon. Mrs. El ward Smith presented each gradu ate with a devotional book. Following the services, a cake for those having birthdays for the month of May, was served with punch and coffee. A large group enjoyed the lovely refreshments. Piano Students Are Presented Mrs. Hedwig Watzig presented James, Danese and Jeffery Har ris in a piano recital Wednesday evening at her home on Hickory St Each played a number of selec tions. Mrs. Yvonne Brosi. voice stu dent of Mrs. Irene McLaughlin, sang several numbers, accompan ied by Mrs. McLaughlin. Relatives and a few musician friends of Mrs. Watiig added to the evening's enjoyment by parti cipating in group singing. Mrs. Harry L. Harris, mother of the three students, was hostess and served delicious refreshments to the 20 guests present. Recent Luncheon Meet Has Minister As Speaker The Rev. Jack Adams of Rose burg was the speaker at a recent luncheon meeting of the Azalea Town and Country Women's Club which was held at the Azalea Grange Hall. The Rev. Mr. Adams, who visited the Near East and then went on to Korea where his parents are missionaries, also ihowed slides from the trip. The dining room was decorated with miniature Maypoles of pink and white streamers going from the poles in the center to the nut cups at each place around the ta ble. Lilacs and narcissi were also used as table decorations. Mrs. Rojr Snyder received tht ioor prir. Glendale Group Fetes Graduates Young people of the Glendale Assembly of God Church honored members of their group who are being graduated from the eighth grade and high school this spring at a banquet given at the church Friday evening. Guests of honor were Nancy Fothcringham, Tilda Perry, Linda Sheppard, Diana Sallec, Wanda Rucker, David Stackhouse, John John Fotheringham, Arlene Mur phy, Marty Mehl and Mary Lou Anderson. Eighteen young people were present. Student Council Enoys Evening The Student Council of the Glen dale High School had a social get together Thursday evening at a din ner at Larry's Drive In in Grants Pass and bowling at the Grants Pass rink afterward. Calvin Fricke, vice principal of the school, and Harold Stapleton who drove the bus, attended with the group. Student Council members pres ent included Marvin Van Norman, Sally Buchanan, Jo Ann Crews, Mandy Foster, Ricky Major, Fred Terry. Nancy Clare, Clinton Bran urn, Darrell Worley, Ronnie Hag gard, Darlene Furlong, Nancy Fothcringham, Patty Buchanan, Don Neifer and Barbara Johnson. Senior Honored At Dinner Party A griduation dinner, held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Haas, Roseburg. was given in compliment to their son. Eldon. a 1963 gradu ate of Roseburg High School. After a delicious 6:30 p.m. din ner, visiting was enjoyed, and the group went to the Roseburg Bowl. Thofe present were Larry In man, Harry Buckwalter. John Vn ruh. Jack Bathrirk, Bill Miller. Les and Leo Finn and the guest of honor. Guests all were class mates of Eldon. Bureau Women Hosted By Men Men of the Cow Creek Farm Bu reau served a dinner of pancakes and sausages to women of the or ganization at the Azalea Grange Hall Friday evening. The tables were beautifully decorated with spring flowers. Each mother was presented with a lovely potted plant as I me mento of the occasion. Bert Ailenby of Roseburg, man ager of the Douglas County Fair, was present and spoke at the meet ing which followed the supper. At the close of the evening, Jack Myler showed picture of the Pa adena Rose Parada. for the picture were Jimmy Barnes, Ronnie Harris, Robin Hendrickson, Leslie Bridges. Miller and Mrs. Norvell Shep pard. The room was decorated with while crepe paper streamers. Two out-of-town guests were present, Miss Loretta Graham, of Springfield, the guest speaker, and Springfield, who joined with Miss Graham in the presentation of a musical program. One of the hon or graduates, Nancy Fothering ham, high school senior, spoke briefly. President Feted AtJaycee Ball The Roseburg Junior Chamber of Commerce President's Ball was held Saturday evening in the Elks Ballroom. Honored were past president, Glen Yates, and the following new officers: Bob Stevens, president; John Foust, vice president; Don Akre, external vice president: Lar ry Green, secretary; Dick Davis, treasurer; Bill Smith, Ken Miller, Bill Donnelly and Ron Strickling, directors; and Glen Yates, state director. Dance music was provided by the Charles Alli ens Trio. Entertain ment during intermission was giv en by the Wayne Scott and Mary Trio. D'Ann Fullerton, who is Miss Roseburg, was introduced to Jay cccs, wives and guests attending the affair. Mrs. Ted Insley Is Complimented Mrs. Jack Mathls was hostess for a potluck dinner and bridge party to honor Mrs. Ted Insley who is moving to Salem this month. A lovely gift was presented to Mrs. Insley from the group. As sisting Mrs. Mathis were Mrs. Charles Bailey, Mrs. Mike Wooton and Mrs. Joe Scallon. Covers were placed for the guest of honor, Mrs. Insley and Mrs. Tom Johnson, Mrs. Darrel Mon teith. .Mrs. William House, Mrs. Gene Rushton, Mrs. Harley Duus, Mrs. Earnest Peel, Mrs. Ken Lu derman and the hostesses. Mrs. Johnson won high prize for bridge. Recital Given A delightful spring piano and or gan recital was presented by stu dents of Mrs. Ray Hill for the stu dents' parents and many friends. Each student played two selec tions, one popular and one classic al. Student! participating were Bruce Robinson, Jackie Hood, Phil ip Smith. John McDonald, Mrs. Lola Haines, Bruce Stone, Denice Deardorff, Rachel Holcomb, Mrs. Don Deardorff and Leslie Moulton. Delicious refreshments were fur nished and served by Mre. Wilma HilL Social Meeting Event Of Friday The Azalea Grange held its monthly social meeting Friday evening at the Grange Hall, with men of the Grange as hosts. Men of the group were asked to make hats for their wives, using pie plates, cups, paper, and fresh flowers and fastening the decora tions in place with scotch tape and staples. The wives then modeled the hats and a winner was chosen. As her prize she received a love ly hand-painted coffee pot. Several poems were read by Mrs. Mullarkey, and the program was closed with singing. After the meeting the men serv ed refreshments. The tables were beautifully decorated with lovely spring flowers. Church Women Meet On Friday The Women's Association of Oakland Community Presbyterian Church met Friday afternoon at the church. Devotions were led by Mrs. Carl ton Goff, Participating in the pro gram were Miss Madeline Loney, Mrs. Howard Crouch and Mrs. Alta Howard. Mrs. Sara Watkins, who is mov ing away, resigned as secretary. A delicious dessert luncheon was served by Mrs. Paul Schulzc, Mrs. Alta Howard and Mrs. Mabel Al len to Mrs. Goff, Mrs. Mary Min ich, Mrs. Watkins, Mrs. Neil Bur pee, Mrs. Jesse Lee, Mrii. Walter Davis, Mrs. Pearl Brandncr. Mrs. E. M. Dunn and Mrs. Crouch. Family Hosted By Dean Jewells Mr. and Mrs. Dean Jewell en tertained in their lovely new home on W. Berdine at a dinner party for Mrs. Jewell's family. The dinner table was decorated with a beautiful yellow and white flower arrangement. Those attending were Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Circle Has Meet The Merry Circle of the Glen dale Presbyterian Church met re cently at the home of Mrs. Calvin Fricke, with Mrs. Katherine Beck ham acting as the hostess. A drawing was held, with Mrs. Ce cil Stickney and Mrs. Bill Barker winning prizes. Six members of the Junior High Girls chorus, Loretta Byrd. Joan Davenport, Nonie Reed, Christy Swanson, Karen Snyder and Mary Palmer, sang two numbers at the conclusion of the meeting. Refreshments were served. ful costumes, took place Saturday evening from 8 to 10 p.m. The performers were the class of Mrs. Frank W. Rapp's kinder garten, who nave been together since fall. They include Matthew Berkshire, Tammy Holcomb, John ny Acres, Julie Cramer, Galen Brown, Susan and Sandra Chris tian and Kerry Johnson. It was an outdoor affair, and the colored stage lighting and beau tiful decorations gave the patio, which served as the stage, the appearance of a miniature circus. A long-necked giraffe and a fat gray elephant were part of the stage setting. Music was furnished by high fidelity records. At tho entrance sttod a bright red and white striped ticket of fice where David Johnson took charge of the ticket and candy sales. Trudy Holcomb had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Loren John son was Mrs. Rapp's assistant. The audience, which consisted of parents, relatives of the children, friends and neighbors, sat on the beautiful lawn facing tho patio.
