DISTRICT No. 2, Oregon Federation of Women's Club, held its convention in Roseburcj Friday , at the Roseburg Woman's Club, followed by a luncheon at the Roseburg Country Club. Shan non and Bernard L. Steinbcrger, both of Portland, took place Fri day at 8 p.m. at the Vancouver Avo. Methodist Church In Port land. The Rev. Arthur Hansen per formed the nuptial rites in the Fireside Room of the church. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Shannon of Portland are the bride's par ents. The bridegroom is the son of B. F. Steinbcrger and Mrs. Al Hudnut. Ilie bride, lovely in a pale green brocade sheath dress with match ing accessories, was given in mar ringe by her parents. Loretta Shannon, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, Best man was Gary Wherry. Forty guests were present for the reception held at the Hudnut home in Portland. Mrs. Hunut served the lovely three-tiered wed ding cake which she had made and decorated. Mrs. Homer Bondy of Eugene, aunt of tho bridegroom, assisted with the serving of refreshments. The bridal couple opened the many lovely wedding gifts, assist ed by Linda and Cheryl Bondy cousins of tho bridegroom. Tho .bride attended Portland schools. The bridegroom attended schools in Roseburg and is em ployed as a postman for the U. S Post Office in Portland. Going north lo attend the wed ding were Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Carter of Winston. Mrs. Carter is tile bridegroom s grandmother. Bridal Shower Is Given Thursday Night At Azalea Blanche Coatc of Glendalo was honored at a bridal shower Thurs day evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs Claude Crlssman of Aza lea. Hostesses were Sylvia Elwell and Barbara Johnson. The honoree and her mother, Mrs. Ed Coate, received lovely corsages. . Games were played, and prizes went to Kalhj Allen and Mrs. td Coate. , After tho honoree had opened i her many lovely gifts, the hostesses served refreshments. The cake frosted in white and decorated with yellow roses, was suitably inscrib- Members Report On Reception The Glendaie Chapter of tho Eastern Star, meeting recently at the Masonic Temple, heard reports from Mrs. Robert Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Edson who had attended the reception for tho Grand Adah, Mrs. Frances Kal ina, which was held in Malin the previous Saturday. Potluck Enjoyed By Pinochle Club A lovely potluck dinner was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Noel, by membors of their pinochle club, Saturday night. The -club consists of six couples who are: Mr. and Mrs. Ionard Noel, air. and Airs. John Melnick, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Stovall, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fest and Mr.- and Mrs Bud Reese ' After the dinner an evening of pinochle was enjoyed. High and traveling prizes were won by Bud Reese. Low prize was won by Mrs. lommy siovau. - The next pinochle partv will be held at tho home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Stovall. Thur., April Jl, 1963 Convention Held Here On Friday All of the clubs in District No. 2 of the Oregon Federation of Wom an s Clubs were represented when 121 members gathered in Roseburg for the annual conven tion Friday. The. Roseburg Wom an's Club with Mrs. T. L. Good win, president, acting as chair man and the Roseburg Junior Woman's Club with Mrs. Larry Kvidera, president as co-chairman, were Hostesses tor the convention. The clubhouse was beautifully decorated for. the occasion with spring flowers. Huge baskets of flowering shrubs softened the cor ners and were centered on the stage. Pink end white was used throughout with a small bowl of pink roses on the president's desk and the registration table. The shadow boxes were exceptionally lovely with arrangements of spring blossoms and many unusual ac cessories. Mrs. Wavne Schulz was in charge and was assisted by .Mrs. Jack West, Mrs.- Marshall Haughn, Mrs. M. L. Fletcher, Mrs. Delmar Hockersmith,- Mrs. Lois Burton and Mrs.' Larry Kvidera. The over-all appearance of the clubhouse was enhanced by the recent redecorauon of the walls and the hanging of new drapes, On display were the painting by Charles Ellison of Springfield who won the Penny Art competition and the longest newspaper article, a full pago in the Eugene Register Guard telling of the bookmobile given by the Eugene Fortnightly Club to the library there. These will go on to compete in the state competition. Yearbooks of all the clubs were also on display: Mrs. Mclford Nelson, state presi dent, Portland; Mrs. John Tyler, 1st vice president, Salem; Mrs, Walter Rich, 2nd vice president, Portland, and Mrs. Wallace Smith, 3rd vice president and junior di rector, Portland, were in attend ance as were Mrs. 0. C. Stanford, a past State president and Mrs. William Harms, president of Dis trict No. 1 from Grants Pass and Mrs. Otto Feucht, Yoncalla, newly elected 1st vice president of Dis trict No. 2. Guests were greeted by three past presidents of the liosoburg Woman s Club: Mrs. Frank Ashley, who is also a past district president; Mrs. Kenneth Ford and Mrs. It. L. Whipple, Registration was in charge of Mrs, Paul Olson of North Bend and Mrs. Victor Lindstrom of Eugene, During this period Mrs. John Bu senbark and Mrs. James Pratt served coffee and doughnuts. Mrs. Douglas C. Welch, district president, who chose the theme of the convention, "Madam t'resi dent," presided. After the gracious welcome given by Mrs. T. L. Good win, the morning agenda disposed of business at hand, reports of presidents, district officers and the fine Arts department. At the noon recess, a motorcade arranged by transportation chair man, Mrs. Albert McBce, was formed and preceded to the Rose burg Country Club where guests were greetdby Mrs. Lester Mel son and Mrs. Emmons Coleman. Luncheon was under the super vision of Mrs. Horace Berg and Mrs. Steven Oakley. The dining room was resplendent with large bouquets of magnolias and lilac, while each of the small tables held a single pink, lilac or white candle with daintily decorated base of rose Detals. All distinguish ed guests and all presidents were seated at a long similarly appoint ed table. Easter Party And Recital Is Held At Marosok Home Mrs. Walter Marosok entertained a group of her piano students at an Easter party and recital Sun day afternoon at' her lovely home. During the recital, prizes ana achievement rewards were pre sented to the students. There were 75 children present to enjoy the occasion, each student bringing a guest. At the conclusion of the after noon, lovely retrcshmcnts were served. Mrs Marosok was assisted in serving my Miss Karen Matron, Miss Diana Lee, Miss Valerie Stapleton and Mrs. Erwin Gubser. Those takins part in the recital were Billy Kinsel, Lauri Hayden, Anne Bauer, Scott Lander, Jani Lee, Ann Walker, Glenda Sellars, Karen Snodgrass, Le Ann Log- asz and Lon Campbell. ' Kathy Snodgrass, Francis Warn bolt, Dale Stapleton; Barbara Ford, Gary Schroeder, Donald Witten, Gregg Campbell, Janis Gubser, Jsly Jones, Lynne Stapleton. Jean Gruwell, Cindy Lombard, Janis Ebert, Monica Circle, Robin Cowbrough, Michael TerBush, Bar bara Schroeder, Cathy Wilson. Charles Gardiner, Carol Smith, Ricky Smith, Helen Tozier, Valerie Stapleton, Charles Insley, Tommy Gruwell and Mark Camp bell. Unable to be present were Shel ley Lewellyn. Cindy Witten, Keith Cooper and Steve Hammett. Mrs. Marosok will present two different groups in recitals in late April and May. stituting for Mayor Garrison, spoke briefly. Since the district president, Mrs. Wlech, chose to honor all presidents, each one was presented to the assembly at this time, as were the state officers. Miss Shar on Medlar, winner of the Virginia urown competition in District 2, cnarmea memners wilh her ren dition of "Arabesque" by Schu mann. Her talent and technique are superior. She will compete with other district winners for the scholarship to be given at the state level. She is a pupil of Miss Gladys Strong and is a Glide Hich School student. Mrs. Welch pinned a lovciy corsage on ner and wish ed her success. The Fun Fashion Frolic stvle show followed with - Mrs. Fred Herman, mistress of cere monies. Members of all the clubs were invited to model garments fashioned by themselves since Sept. 2, 1962, and others could model in a non-competitive class, which added much to the show. In the suits and coats division, Mrs. R. D. Bruce of Coos Bay was first; in the afternoon wear, Mrs. Albert McBee of Roseburg took the honors and Mrs. Thomas Forrest of Myrtle Creek won first in the evening wear. The sweep stakes winner was Mrs. Bruce with an exceptionally lovely out- nc ot tuu lengtn coat with detach able fur collar. During the show, Mrs. Floyd Warner played back ground music on the piano. Mrs. L. L. Burr, Mrs. Jack West and Mrs. Meredith Wilson acted as "ap plause meters" to select the win ner. Thirteen of the members of the Roseburg Junior Woman's Club, wmcn was in charge of the pro gram, ' entertained with a unique and hilarious skit. They put on a typical woman's club meeting with lull agenda in verse and song, which proved to be a highlight of the afternoon session. Mrs. Larry Kviciera, president of the Juniors, played president in the skit. After tlie entertainment, reports of district chairmen were heard. Members of Roseburg Clubs re porting were Mrs. James Pratt who is Community Improvement chairman for the district; Mrs. Frank Ashley, International Clubs chairman and Mrs. R. R. League, district communications chairman who announced the winners of the publicity contest. Coquille Wom an s Club won first in the district with the largest number of inches from Sept. 1, 1962, to March 1, 1963; Eugene Fortnightly Club of Eugene was first with their full page of 186 inches for the longest article. Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Tyler and Mrs. Rich each spoke briefly. Mrs. Nelson on federation; Mrs. Tyler on the "Clubwoman," national magazine of the federation, and Mrs. Rich on the Western States Conference. Clyde Curtis, minister of the Reorganized Church of Je sus Christ of latter Day saints Church. RoseburR. Derformed the wedding ceremony which united in marriage his son, uaivin, to Mil lie Jones, both , of Lacy, Wash., The double ring ceremony took place in Tacoma, Wash., at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. William Jensen. The bride wore a blue lace dress with white accessories. Her veil was secured with a headdress of white roses. She carried a lover's knot bououet of white carnations and baby chrysanthemums. Mrs. Jensen was matron of hon-. or for her sister. She wore a pink silk suit and carried white carna-, tions. The birde's mother wore a beige , knit suit with pink accessories. The ' bridegroom's mother was clad in a pale green suit and white accessories. Both mothers had pink carnation corsages. A lovely reception was held fol lowing the weaning. After a short honeymoon trip, the young people are now at home at 2102 Alpha Drive in Lacy. Mr. Curtis has worked for the Ford Road Construction Plant for the past four years. i Music Appreciation Course Planned By Woman's, Club At its April meeting, members of the Roseburg Woman's Club accepted, the recommendations of the executive board to give the fine arts chairman, Mrs. James Campbell, the "go-ahead" to com plete plans to bring a music ap preciation course to the member ship. The course will be composed of lecture-recitals through the Uni versity of Oregon Music Depart ment and will begin in the fall. Other matters to come before the members included the revi sions of the constitution and by laws of the. club which had been compiled by a committee. ' Mrs.' Albert McBee, program chairman, introduced Arno Birke land of Royal Dutch Airlines', who conducted the members on an "armchair tour," through talking colored movies of Europe. The pro gram was arranged through the courtesy of a .travel agency and the speaker remained- to answer questions about travel during the tea hour.--.: ( .' i Mrs. 0 L. Miss Gayle Neuner and Miss Carol Williams from . Roseburg High School were guests., Mrs.'-0. W. Eggleston, art chair man, had' on display numerous paintings done by the art students of John Lombard of the high school. Farmer Is Initiated Oregon Chapter No. 57, OES, in itiated Mrs. Charles Farmer and accepted Areola and Aaron Glas gow into membership by affilia tion at its regular meeting Wednes day at the Canyonville Masonic Temple. The Glasgows transferred from Adelphi Chapter No. 188 at Spokane Wash. They are now living at For est Glen. Worthy Patron and Matron, Mr. and Mrs. William Belcher, honored 11 past matrons and 6 past patrons present. The conductress gave each one escorting honors and a gavel pin-on. Mrs.-Wade Worth ington Sr., and Mrs. Joseph An derson served refreshments follow ing the meeting at tables decorated with spring -Howers and candles. The Chapter's Friendship Night is scheduled for Wednesday, April 17. Announcement was made of a Rainbow Girls and Social Club Rummage Sale Friday and Satur day, April 26-27, in the chapter dining room.
