o Drain Couple By JO CARLILE Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter of Drain attended the Owen D. Thompson family reunion at the home of Mrs. Carter's sister, Mrs. Delbert Addleman, in Eugene Sun day. The Anson Thompson family re union was also held the same day and the two families got together for an afternoon of visiting. The one coming the greatest distance was Gordon Thompson, a mission ary to Puerto Rico. The oldest at tending was Mrs. Carter's father, Owen Thompson. The Carter's grandson, Rickey, 2-months-old was the youngest to make an appear ance. Drain BPW Club Hears Reports At Meeting Committee reports on the rcent club - sponsored well-child clinic were heard at the last meeting of (he Drain Business and Profession al Women's Club, reports Jo Car. lile, correspondent. A total of 29 children received the pre-school hearing test and three babies bad immunization in noculation, it was reported. Committee appointments for the coming year were made. , Club prizes for the meeting were won by Margaret McCarger and Edith Wright. The next meeting was set for Aug. t at the home of Edith Wright. While here they went salmon fish ing at Winchester Bay. Freda Roe and Bertha Davis are in Salem visiting and attending the Assembly of God camp meet. Harriott Keeney has gone to Mountan Home, Idaho, to visit her sister, Anna Bell Ferguson. Mrs. Robert Pritchett and two children of Klamath Falls visited her uncle and aunt Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Carter. Mr. Pritchett is in the Army and is stationed over seas. Mrs. John So well, Mrs. Earl Keener and Phillip and Leandra attended the Old Fashioned Camp Meet at Brooks Thursday. Grandchildren Visit Greg and Julie Haldeman visited their maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Clark recently; Mark and Janet Haldeman visited their paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Haldeman; and Charmaine, Diane and Marilyn Lovelace visited their maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rich ard Clearman. DAVE THRUSH The Rev. Roy Knight, former minister of the Camas Valley Methodist Church and now of Mc Minnville, called in Camas Valley recently, with Mrs. Knight. Among those they visited wereMr. and Mrs. Guy Moore. The Rev. Mr, Knight is presently the minister of a small church at McMinnville. Idaho Woman Visits A weekend guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Moore was Moore's aunt, Mrs. J. N. Leigh of Parma, Idaho. On Sunday Moore's cousin, Mrs. D. D. Young and her husband, of Roseburg joined them for dinner. The Young's took Mrs. Leigh to Roseburg with them. Mr. and Mrs. Chuck White and two children have moved to Glide. Lyle Ice, who recently suffered a heart attack, is recuperating at his home after spending a week in Grandview Rest Home in Rose burg. He is reported to be much improved. Mr. and Mrs. John Bibow of Eu gene are new residents of Camas Valley. Bibow is employed at the Roseburg Lumber Co. at Dillard. Mr. and Mrs. Eraett Belcher of Tiller spent one day the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Donovan. Mr. and Mrs. Farrel Wiley of Tenmile have purchased the Wil liam Sieman home. The Sieman's plan to move to Yachats. Norma and Jay Randall, children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Randall, are spending the summer in Mon tana. Norma is staying with Mrs. Randall's brother, Ray Petersen, in Haugan and working as a wait ress. Jay is stayin gin Tarkio with Mrs. Randall's sister, Mrs. Dolle Hankinson and working in the hay. Mrs. Randall plans to leave for Missoula Aug. 1 for a family re union and the 50th wedding anni versary of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rosco Petersen. Mrs. Randall stated this will be the first time the family of 12 children has been together with the parents since childhood days. Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Amstein and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Spencer, all of Cam- Valley, have returned home from a two-week vacation trip. They went to Broken Bow, Neb., where they visited spencer's broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Spencer, his sister. Mrs. Lela Piper, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. From there they went through Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and on to Tucson, Ariz., where they visit ed the Amstein's daughter and Mrs. Spencer's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Wat kins and family. All Members and Families Invited Unander Schedules PORTLAND (UPI Republi can senatorial candidate Sig Un ander of Portland will leave next week for a two-week tour of the Far East. - He said "this trip will offer me the opportunity to study at first hand some of the problems that seriously affect the United States and threaten world peace." Unander will face Sen. Wayne Morse, D-Ore., in the general elections in November. He will leave next Tuesday for Bean Picking In Days Creek Area Draws Sizable Crew Monday By MRS. DURNIN SWINGLEY Bean-picking started at the Hay- den Laurance field three miles west of Days Creek Monday with a quick once-over -by a sizame crew of pickers, some coming from as far away as Drew and up-river from Tiller. Some beans were ready for picking several days earlier but the cannery wasn't yet receiving. Pickinu at the local field should be much easier this year as the problem of too much foliage has been alleviated, according to the Laurances. Planting was made on a new acreage this season. Har vesting of sweet corn should start in about two or possibly three weeks, also, according to Mrs. Lau rance. Arizona Folks Visitors Mr. and Mrs. George Osborn have arrived from Yuma, Ariz., to visit the latter's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Prairie and family. They brought their mobile home which they park under a tree in the side yard. The area was prepared for the conven ience of friends and relatives who bring their trailers. Later, the Os- borns will return south through California. Recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted. Iszler were their daughter, Mrs. Linda Vander rock, and a friend, Gordon Osko, both of Los Angeles. Coinciding with their daughter's visit was the arrival of Iszler's nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Iszlcr, and sons, Folly and Virgil, of iStreeter, N. D. They had been to the Seattle fair and came on south to Oregon to visit relatives and for sightseeing. Also visiting at the Iszler home were the Rev. and Mrs. G. A. Mor- itz of Napoleon, N.D., their daugh ter, Ruth, who attends college in Minnesota, and their son, Dwight, who teaches at LaMars, Iowa. The Glendale Family For Recent Reunion Gathering By MRS. GERALD FOX Mr. and Mrs. Richard Van Duine and family of Glendale were recently hosts for a family reunion attended by the following: Their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hau'gom and children, Cynthia and Ricky of Fort Atkin son, Wis.; their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Van Duine and children, Mike, Terry, and Danny of Bellview, Wash.; their son, Richard Van Duine Jr. of Myrtle Point; their .son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.' Jack Kil mer and children, Anthony ana Teresa of Eugene; and Mrs. Van Duine's brother and his wile, Mr. and Mrs. Benny Knypstra of Elk ton. Celebration Attended Mrs. Howard Edson and her daughter, Mrs. Richard Reid of Grants Pass returned Monday eve ning from a four-day trip to Am- boy, wash., Mrs. Basons ginnooa home. They attended the Territor ial Days Celebration, making the 76th year since the postoffice was established In Amboy, and stayed at the home of Mrs. Edson's for mer neighbor and schoolmate, Mrs. Mary Lamb. Returning home, they stopped In Eugene to visit with former Grants Pass neighbors of the Reids, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Coleman, and brought back the Coleman's daugh ter, Sandy, for a visit with one of her friends In Grants Pass. Tour Of Far East Sidney, Australia, on personal business and will proceed from there to the Far East. Unander said he will to visit Japan, Formosa, South Viet Nam, The Philippines, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and Okin awa . He said "in Japan, 1 will be especially interested in the prob lems affecting timber and timber products of the Pacific North west." Rev. Mr. Moritz is pastor of the Evangelical United Bret hern Church. They had been to the Fair also. Others from North Dakota visit ing the Iszlers recently were his niece and family, the Rev. and Mrs. Gideon Eberhardt and daugh ter, Gwinn, from Cavalier. Leaden At OSU The Days Creek High School cheer leaders spent last week at Oregon State University, Corvallis, attending a cheer leaders' school. In the group were Camille Ellef son, Days Creek; Barbara Jewett, Drew; Rosemary Porter, Avis Lewis, Joni Gay Evers, Diana and KC Picht, all of Tiller. Their brothers, John and Donnell. remained for a longer visit. , Bay Chemical Co. of Tacoma, Wash., applied dust retardant to approximately four miles of the Jackson Creek Rd. last Saturday. The firm's crew will return next Sunday according to present plans, and will complete the remainder of the Jackson Creek proiect and un dertake application of the dust re tardant mat'.-ials to portions of the main South Umpqua Rd.
