(Syd) Comfort of Glide, well known lumberman and sports man has entered a new field of business and sports. At the Central Washington Quar ter Horse Show held in Yakima, Wash. June 23 and 24, Baldy Buzz and Pee Wee Bomb, full brother stallions owned by Comfort, won the senior and junior reining class trophies and blue ribbons. They were ridden by Lucky Warren of Grants Pass. Pee Wee, a 4 year old, was start ed in training by Warren in Feb ruary of this year. Buzz, the senior stallion is well known in the Pacific Northwest. He was purchased last September by Mrs. Comfort as a wedding anni versary gift, which started Com fort on his career as an enthusias tic horseman. Buzz was sent to the Lucky Warren Training Stables at Grants Pass for additional train ing. The stallion has the distintion i of being the only Oregon quarter horse to make the Sweepstakes fi l nals at the Portland International Horse Show last fall, and also won the working cow-horse event. Comfort relates further honors ! of his senior stallion, Buzz, who was the Grand Champion working horse at the Northwest winter j horse show at Walla Walla, Wash., j winning a saddle given to the quar ter horse accumulating the most points in working events at Cor- vallis, Salem, Eugene, Gresham Furness Creek in Death Valley this last winter. This outstanding stallion was reserve champion working horse at the State of Jef ferson quarter horse show held at Grants Pass in April. Division of the Douglas County Babe Ruth League went on to edge Riverside 10 in a pitchers duel. Doug Matson and Gary Heeler matched talents in a pitching duel, with Matson coming out on the short end of the final score. Mat son gave up just one run on three hits, while whiffing 10 and walking six. On the other hand, Heetcr gave up two hits and struck out seven, while issuing four base on balls. The game's only run came in the second frame when Larry Wood man slammed a ball over the right fence for a round-tripper. Rose burg's otlier two hits were collect ed by Rian Brown and Jim Rich mond, while Riverside's only hits were garnered by Steve Vastcrling and Matson. Roseburg's victory evens its league record at 1-1, while River side is one-half game back with a 1-2 record. Leading the pack is the Fremont club with a 3-0 league mark. . Palmer finished with a two over par 73. Fred Hawkins took the first round lead with a 68. (UPI Telephoto). RCC Lady Golfers Announce Winners Vivian Harth, Mirna Hard, Mar garet Ganz, Sue Siekman and bdith Nordling walked off with the honors in the Roseburg Country Club's lady golfers Kicker Tour nament Tuesday. Mrs. Harth topped the field in the Class , A action, while Mrs. Hard and Mrs. Ganz ended tied for first among the Class B players. Mr. biekman and Mrs. Nordling won the Class C and Class D clas sifications of the tourney respectively. I here will be a general lunch eon meeting of the lady golfers July 3 following Sweepstakes Day's Play. Golfers will make their own pairings as it will also be guest day. Following the meeting Edna Teague, chairman of the rules committee, will discuss the rules and etiquette on the golf course for the new members. All other mem bers wishing to brush up on rules and etiquette are invited to attend. Qualifying rounds for the Club Championship tourney will be held July 3-9. Little Beaver and Sky Low Low are old mat enemies, and anything is liable to happen when the two get together in the ring. Owen warns local fans that Sat urday will bo the last chance to see the wrestling midgets in ac tion before they leave the North west. In addition to the featured Mid get battle, Owen has two t o p matches lined up for the evening. In the main event- Luther Lindsey will match wits with Eritz von Goering. Tangling in the semifinal bout will be llocky Colombo, the popular favorite from the Bronx, and the dashing Pepi Gomez. Lindsey is listed as one of (he top 10 heavyweights in the world, and only recently returned from a tour of Japan where he was unde feated. The big colored head-butter will be out to dump Von Goer ing in order to get a crack at Von Goering's Pacific Northwest heavyweight title.
