Parents Told To Give Help CHICAGO (UPI) Evangelist Billy Graham told a crowd which included street gang members Tuesday night "God never in tended that young people should be disciplined by the courts, but by their parents." Graham, addressing 36,000 per sons at McCormick Place in the 14th meeting of his Greater Chi cago Crusade, urged parents to give up the "cheap glitter of modern living" and offer their children Christian guidance. Among the throng, which brought to nearly 460,000 the num ber of persons attending the re vivals thus far, were 350 members of various South Side youth gangs, crusade officials said. Mickey Rooney Now Bankrupt HOLLYWOOD (UPI) Actor Mickey Rooney, 39, who earned MICKEY ROONEY . . in troubled times an estimated $12 million during a movie career that began when he was a child, said Tuesday he had filed a bankruptcy petition listing debts ef $484,914.12. Rooney's petition, filed Monday in U.S. District Court, said he owed back alimony payments totaling $22,950 to three ex-wives and owed federal taxes of $106,68! and state taxes of $9,826. "It's something I had to do for my family," said Rooney. "There was no way out." Rooney said he owed back ali mony payments to Elaine Davis of $19,500, to Betty Jane Baker of $3,000, and to Martha Vickers of $450. Also 'isted were debts of $1,889 on a leopard skin coat, and gam bling losses on horse races of $2,000. - The petition said the actor earned $85,229 during the past two years and received $19,000 from a trust fund set up for him by his mother more than 20 years ago However, because of the thor oughness of the trio's planning to bust "The Rock," officials con cede that the men could have made it ashore on a makeshift raft. Presence Not Discounted Nor do they discount the possi bility that Frank Lee Morris, 35, the leader, and two brothers, John, 32, and Clarence Anglin, 31, are still on the island, lurking in a water s edge cave. An ever-widening search coor dinated by the FBI has spread over northern California. Their escape was discovered at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday. They were last seen at 9:30 p.m. Monday. No one is known to have sur vived an escape attempt from The Rock in its 28 years as a federal prison, although 35 men tried it in 11 separate attempts- Warden Blackwell told how the three men escaped the attention of authorities. At 5 p.m. Monday, as usual, the doors clanged shut in the three tiered cell block that housed 269 prisoners, watched over by 155 guards. At 9:30 and thereafter every hour on the hour during periodic checks, nothing was found amiss Then at 7:15 in the morning, at the regular showup, the three didn't get up. Guards prodded what appeared to be their sleep ing forms and found dummies "very realistic, plaster, paint and hair heads and pillow bodies. Digging Tedious It was found that the trio, ap parently for weeks, had been dig ging at plaster and cement four inches thick with bits of spoons. Their painstaking effort loosened a metal cover leading to a ven tilation shaft through each cell wall. The 8-by-10 inch openings con nectcd the cells with a service shaft a yard wide. From there it was 30 feet up a pipe to an air conditioner. This was dismantled, steel bars some how torn aside and access gained to the mess hall roof. A 50-foot-long drain pipe led to the ground, about 100 yards from the water on the San , Francisco side of the island. From this point. Warden Black well said, it was anybody's guess what the three desperate men did. 3 AMERICA'S FINEST JEANS For more than a century, there's only been one brand of jeans with this slim, snug cut one brand of jeans with this super-tough denim, reinforced with Copper Rivets.
