Margaret Miller of San Francisco, Calif., is visiting in Elk ton at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jack Gorman. Serviceman Leaves Ronald Moore left this week for Fort Lewis, Wash., where he is stationed in the Army. He returned from a 39-day leave, which be spent shearing sheep in the Elkton area. Mrs. James Haines and daughter and Mrs. Don Hansen and daugh ter are visiting this week with friends and relatives in Eureka and Oric, Calif. Lester Merrill is in the Cottage Grove Hospital where he is under observation. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Duncan and family have recently returned to their home in Elkton from a three week vacation to South Dakota where they visited friends and rela tives. Mr, and Mrs. Robert Baxter and Mrs. Theresa Andrews of San Francisco, Calif., are visiting this week at the parental T. J. An drews home. Mrs. William Bunch underwent major surgery in the Sacred Heart Hospital this week. Visits Parents Tom Beal and daughter of Van couver, Wash., were weekend guests at the parental Bob Beal home. Faye Brooks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Brooks had the Sen Franciscan Slated For Re i Cross Banquet Joseph Rodell of San Francisco, Inbor liaison officer for the Ameri can Red Cross, will be the featur ed speaker at Saturday's annual Ted Cross banquet at the home of A'rs. Philip Johnson in Winston. The banquet is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. It will be preceded by a 6:30 p. ir. social hour. Also on the agenda for the meet ing will be the introduction of new officers and board of directors of the Douglas County Chapter will be reported. Officers will be in stalled. Circuit Judge Charles Woodrich is scheduled to present the chap ter's profile study report during the evening. The report was re quested by the National Red Cross, which estimates the value and ef fectiveness of the county chapter and what can be done to improve it. Shaffels Move Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sheffel Jr. and family are visiting at the par ental Ralph Sheffel sr. home. Ralph Jr. has just finished serving four years in the Navy. He plans to attend Oregon Technical Insti tute in Klamath Falls this fall. The Well-Baby Clinic will be held July 25 at 10 a.m. at the fciKton Christian Church. Diane Partch and Vcrneda Hes cock, both of Eugene, were recent overnight guests at the home of Doris Compton. Thirty Douglas County men will join nearly 1,500 Army Reservists jn the Northwest s 104th Timber wolf Division who leave Saturday for two weeks active duty training at Camp Roberts, Calif. They are members of the U. S. BCT (basic combat training). Tak ing the trip will be 24 enlisted men and six officers under the com mand of Capt. Alexander W. Ken nedy. The men will remain at the sprawling camp near Paso Robles two weeks, training men who are in their final two weeks of eight week boot camp. The Timberwolf Division will chalk up several firsts during the 1961 summer encampment period. Newsmen Admitted LISBON (AP) Portugal will admit foreign newsmen and movie and television crews to Angola for the first time since the rebel lion started in the West African territory, the Overseas and Foreign ministries announced Wednesday night. The announcement said news men have been barred for their own safety, but conditions have improved. ! during its history as a reserve unit that it will be self-sufficient for two weeks training, with only a minimum of regular Army person- nel for support; and it will be the 'first time since it became a train linr division in 1959. that it will take over the complete training for one ' week of regular Army re cruits from nearby FL Ord. Major Gen. Eugene C. Cushing, Vancouver, Wash., will be in com mand of the main body of troops during summer camp. He will be assisted by Brig. Gen. Snyder L. Peebles, Seattle, Wash., and Brig. Gen. William H. Prentice, Medford. Units of the Timberwolf Divi sion are located throughout Ore gon and Washington from the Canadian border to Klamath Falls, Oregon, with 104th headquarters at Vancouver Barracks, Wash. One of the 13 Army Reserve training divisions in the nation, the 104th is link of the U. S. defense chain. Mrs. Russell Rummel of Rose burg, because of leccnt training in disaster work, has been sent to the Fresno and Yoscmite Park for est fire disaster area in California. A Red Cross volunteer disaster worker, she has been working tiiis week with the organization at the fire, after having been flown to San Francisco and taken to the fire scene by Red Cross statf car. Mrs. Rummell was chosen by the Red Cross last spring to attend a disaster school in San Francisco. She is now on call to go to any disaster area in the United Stales to rehabilitate disaster victims. The California fire is the first dis aster to which Jlrs. Rummel has been called. She expects to remain in California for two or three weeks. Connecticut and Pennsylvania have the same state flower, the Mountain Laurel. Officials of Seattle's Century 21 Exposition, scheduled to open April 21, 1962, predict a total attendance of 10 million.
