Under the lights Burke handled the first four innings for the Pi rates, giving way to Allen in the fifth. Burke struck out eight Crater batsmen and walked two as he pitched four innings of no-hit, no run ball. Allen finished out the last three innings striking out sev en and giving up only one hit to the invading Comet reserves. Bob Jones came through with the only hit for the Crater nine as he beat out a single in the seventh inning to spoil Allen's no hit relief performance. The Pirates took the lead in the first innings with two tallies, then added two in the fourth and two in the sixth as they swept, to the victory. Coach Clarance Friedrich used many subs as the Pirates took the lead and held on. Alton watson started the first rally for the winners as he led off witn a safety. Mealing second Watson scored on an unsuccessful fielder's choice as Hubert Stewart reached first. O'Neil and Stewart were both cupped at the n ate and Monte McLaughlin who had reach ed first on a fielder's choice stole second and third, then scored on a pass oau. in me ioiirtn inning uprising Glen Blevins and Lester Moschkau tallied the counters for the Pi rates. Blevins singled and went to third when Moschkau was safe on a fielder's choice. Robert McDow ell squeezed Blevins home with the first run and Moschkau scored on a double off the bat of Allen. V Sutherlin Drops Drain Warriors Dennis Arana homered in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Sutherlin Bulldogs a 3-1 vic tory over the invading Drain War riors in a practice game Wednes day. Going into thi final inning of the non-counter the Warriors enjoyed a 1-0 edge as Ran Cool and Mike Blomberg had held the Bulldog bats in check. However, Arana's long blast changed the count as the Bulldogs continued to win. Laddie Crippen was the winning pitcher for Sutherlin as he went the distance allowing only two hits and striking out five. Cool, a flashv left hander, worked the first three frames for the Warriors giving up only one nit ana striKing oul six Blomberg came in to relieve Cool in the fourth and was charged with the loss giving up three runs in the bottom of the final frame, The Warriors opened the scor ing in the fourth inning as they broke the scoreless tie witn a sin gle tally. MONTGOMERY WARD Jackson OPEN MONDAY Thur., April 13, 1961 The Jerry Boucock tossed a spark ling no-hitter for the Roseburg Jayvees Wednesday as he led his team to an 80 victory over the Douglas Jayvees. Exhibiting top form Boucock faced 18 batters in the five inning contest as he was in complete con trol from start to finish. In his no-no performance Boucock struck out 10 Douglas batters, walked two and one got on base on a KoseBurg error. With Boucock in control on the mound, the Indian reserves back ed the flashy sophomore with sev en hits and eight runs. The local Jayvees struck first in the opening inning with four runs, then added four more in the third as they rolled to their second victory in two days. Start Rally In the first frame Mike Harris and Lance Casebccr collected back-to-back singles to start the rally. Both runners advanced on a passball, then sped to the plate as Jim Wassom belted a single. Wassom went to second on a pass ball. George Sork walked and both continued around to the plate on pass balls. Casebecr started the second ral ly with a long triple to center field, only to be outdone by Was som who blasted a round tripper over the center fielder. Dave Se vall reached first on an error and Bob Woodruff followed with a sin gle to keep the Indian reserves alive. The two runners advanced on a double steal, then scampered home on a pass ball. Wassom's homer was his third in two days and his seventh con secutive hit as the opposition has not been able to put him out in the majority of the last three ball games. MC Hornets Quelch Riddle Stinkers, 6-4 In the first outing for both teams, the Myrtle Creek Hornets roared back from a three run deficit and then hung on for a hard earned 6-4 win over the Kiddle Stinkers. The game, played on the Myr tle Creek diamond, was a practico contest. Riddle jumped to a :t-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Hornets added two runs in the first and 4 more in the sec ond to lake a commanding lead. Tom Morrison took over tim mound chores for the losers and held the Hornets in check for the last 3 innings of the 5 inning game. Steve Gordon pitched effective ball against Riddle but 4 errors by his teammates resulted in Rid dle runs. Dennis Birenbaum pitch ed in relief and served up score less ball for the last two innings.
