Miss Lortel began her unortho
dox staging 14 years ago at the
White Barn theater in Westport,
Conn- where invitation audiences
examine shows on summer week
ends. Currently she is producing
the fifth season of matinee per
formances on behalf of the Ameri
can National Theatre and Acad
emy at another theater she owns,
the de Lys in Greenwich Village.

Fur Seal Gets
Spr
ing Haircut
Fur seal got a butch haircut for
' spring.
The result is lakoda, a sheer,
lightweight fur introduced recent
ly by the fur seal industry to com
pete with cloth coats in mild
weather, too.
Jealous of the sllkiness and
rlrapability of some fabrics spring
wraps are made of, pelt-makers
sheered the Alaskan seal to give it
a flat, silky and golden irridescent
appearance.
Since the new fur has reached
the market, designers have fash
ioned it into jackets, caps and
three quarter length coats.
Crisply tailored shirtmaker jack
eta and coats are a fur design
innovation which is not usually pos
sible with other unshearcd animal
pelts.
Just as if It were fabric, the
new lakoda fur is often trimmed i
with mink ranch or mutation, un-
aheared aeal, blue fox or Persian
Lamb dyed brown or black.
The shearing trick keeps the fur
out of the storage vaulta in spring,

Sunday Afternoon
On Sunday, Feb. 5, the Rev. and
Mrs. H. James Jenkins held open
house m celebration of the for
mer's completion of 10 years in the
Methodist Ministry in Oregon.
In 1951, the Rev. Mr. .Jenkins
completed his studies at Boston
University School of Theology and
came as associate minister, of the
First.Methodist Church of Portland
where he remained for six and a
half years. In June of 1954 the
Jenkins1 family moved to Roseburg.
Many guests' attended the open
house. Seventh grade girls acting
as assistant hostesses were Louise
Horton, Loretla Todd, Marcia Hall,
Patty Bates, Edna Rand, Daphne
Phillips, Iva Edwards, Jacqueline
Adair, Brenda Carr, Kathy McMul
len, Beverley Hoist and Patty Clute.
Mary Louise Jenkins was in charge
of the guest book.
