The Oriental Missionary Society is an inter-denominational faith so ciety specializing in direct evan gelism, by training a foreign na tional ministry in Bible seminaries land by placing the gospel in ev-i iery home with the " Gospel Cru sade. The Rev. Virgil Dunbar will be speaking tonight at 7:15. He will tell of his missionary work and other experiences while serving as a missionary crusader in Japan. The Rev. Rolland Rice, superin tendent of the Formosa field of the Oriental Missionary Society, will speak Saturday at 7:15 p.m. He will relay stories and happen ings in Formosa. The Rev. Henry Steel, who min istered in the mission fields of Colombia and Ecuador this past summer, will be speaking at the 11 a.m. Sunday service. Steel is the newly appointed Northwest Re gional Secretary for the Oriental Missionary Society with offices in Portland. He is now working in this area full time as a missionary evangelist. Westside Christian i To Host Choir Men The Male Quartet from North west Christian College and Profes sor John Boosinger will sing and speak at the Sunday School and the Church services of the West side Christian Church Sunday. The Sunday School program will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a brief concert by the quartet. Professor Boosinger will speak at the 10:55 worship service. The quartet members are: D vid Lyon, Salt Lake City; Gordon Reid, Twin Falls, Idaho: Willis King, Klamath Falls and Louis Sut cliffe, Milwaukie. This quartet has traveled extensively throughout the Northwest during the past year singing in churches and conven tions. Each of the members is a student at Northwest Christian Col lege in Eugene in preparation for the ministry. RAYMOND GRANT will make o presen tation which will aid local Methodists to rebuild their blast damaged sanctuary. Bishop Grant To Give Fund Bishop A. Raymond Grant, Resi dent Bishop of the Methodist Church for the Portland area will be in Roseburg Monday to make a presentation which will aid local Methodists to rebuild their blast damaged sanctuary. The money was collected from Methodist Churches in California, Oregon, Idaho, Washington and Alaska when they brought special offerings on "Help Roseburg Sun day." Bishop Grant will be the princi ple speaker at a dinner given in the church dining room at 6:30. He has given no indication of the amount which might be presented. The money cannot be used for mortgage payments, it must be applied on a new building., Dinner tickets are on sale in the church office. The dinner is being served by Methodist Men's Club and the youth will act as waiters and waitresses. Sacrificial Giving Ends Week Of Prayer "A sacrificial gift for missions from every member" was the goal of the special financial consecra tion service held Nov. 14 in the Roseburg Seventh - day Adventist Church. I he occasion marked the i climax of the denomuiation s an nual fall Week of Prayer. Members of the church were in I vited to show that their "Docke- 1 books have joined the church loo,' jn contributing to a special fund for selected missionary causes at j home and abroad. Many members contribute as much as a full week's salary at this time. This offering is in addition to the usual 10 per cent and more which Adventists are accustomed to giving the church from their incomes. The purpose of the Week of Praver just concluded, according to Elder Walter Riston, pastor, is I to strengthen the personal rela tionship of individual members with God. every one's o bargain. Service which is sponsored by the Greater Roseburg Ministerial Assn., will be held at North Rose burg Church, at 1553 NE Vine Si. The service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. The order of the service will be as follows. The Rev. Olen GoddarJ of American Sunday-School Union will offer the prayer of invoca-1 tion; the Rev. Calvin Harrah of; Melrose Community Church will read the Scripture; the Rev. Wil-i liam Moorhead of Pinegrove Com-j munity Church will offer the morn- ing prayer; the Rev. Baptists To Hold Revival Service The First Southern Baptist Mis sion of Oakland will hold revival services Nov. 22 to Nov. 29, an nounced Donald H. Mitchell, pas tor. . Scientists Set Special Service A special Thanksgiving service will be held Thursday al 11 a.m., by the First Church of Christ Sci entist, 1124 SE Douglas Ave. No collection is taken, at this service and the public is invited. The Thanksgiving Day Procla mation of the President of the United States will be read at the service. Readings from the King James version of the Bible anil from "Science and Health With Key To The Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddv will comprise the les son-sermon for the day entitled "Thanksgiving." Lookingglass To Hear Thanksgiving Message An inspiring Thanksgiving mes sage in music will be presented by the combined choirs of the Lookingglass Community Church Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The program in four parts will include vocal and instrumental solo numbers as well as small group and choral numbers. A Negro sermon based on "The Creation" will be featured along with Ralph Vaughan Williams' stir ring arrangement of "All People That On Earth Do Dwell" with trombone accompaniment. A la dies' double trio will sing an un usual harvest song based on Psalms 65 and 103. Another spe cial feature will be the spiritual, "He's Got the Whole Wonti in His Hands." Son Married Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nichols re port that their son, Sp.4 Harry Ni chols was married Oct. 20, to Carol Roberson of Edgewood, Md. The new Mrs. Nichols flew out over a past weekend to meet her new in laws. She has left for Maryland again. Recent visitors in the Bob Ni chols home were Mrs. Earl Kel ley, of Scotlsburg and Mr. an'l Mrs. George Kelley of Eugene. Mrs. Bob Nichols attended school in Cottage Grove for three days taking training for the farm cen sus. Mrs. Nichols is covering this area as a census taker. The Ladies Aid Society of the Wilbur Methodist Church held its monthly meeting recently. A pol lock lunch was served at noon. Mrs. It. F.. Brown was hostess and Mrs. Edith McKay read the de votions. Meeting Planned 11 was decided that the next meeting would be an afternoon meeting. A plate collection will he taken instead of exchanging gifts. Thev visited Christie's rel atives in Willmar, Ninn. They also went to Kent, Wash., where Mrs. Christie's sister, Mrs. Alex John son had a serious operation. Visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Carey is 'heir daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Holmes and son, of Moun tain Home. Idaho. The Holmes' arc also visiting his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Holmes, and a sis ter, Mrs. Clinton Webber, of Rose burg. Less Rivalry Urged By Russian NEW YORK (AP) The Soviet Union's atomic energy chief urges less competition and more coop eration between the United Stales and the Soviet Union in develop ing nuclear power for peaceful use. Prof. Vasily S. Yemelyanov, chief of the Soviet administration for peaceful utilization of atomic energy, has concluded a 15-day inspection tour of major atomic research centers in this country. Yemelyanov, who was accom panied by nine other Soviet scien tists, said he was impressed by what he saw here. Citing "waste" in constructing atom smashers, Yemelyanov said. "You build a big machine ai.d then we build a bigger one."
