o Moose HuKfero Bring Home Kill By MRS. GERALD B. FOX Six southern Oregon men. five of them Glendale residents or for mer residents, have returned from a moose hunting trip in Canada in which five members killed their meat. Successful hunters were: Bill Thompson, Joe Anderson, and Tom Jlehl, all of (Uendale, Ted Meelass of Springfield, formerly of Glen dale, and Tex Hollandquist of Dia mond Lake. Millard Reagan of Glendale, accompanied the group but did not return with a moose. The largest kill was mad by Bill Thompson, whose animal had horns measuring 51V across. One ham of Thompson's moose weighed 95 lbs. The group drove about 97 miles above Likely, Canada, then rode horseback and walked some dis tance beyond that. .Mr. and Mrs. F. II. Van Valken burg and Mrs. Zelma Smith, of Quines Creek, returned recently, from a month's vacation in 20 Eastern states. Their trip included visits to Yellowstone National Park, the Bad Lands of South Ilakota, Cumberland Kails in Ken tucky, Rock City in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Arizona, and Boulder Dam and Los Vegas. They return ed via Southern California where they visited with relatives before returning home. Washington People Visit Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Halverson of Glendale, are being visited by by his brother-in-law and sister. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Macey of Spokane, Wash. They arrived here Oct. 8 and plan to stay for about a month. j Cecil Taylor, brother of F 1 o y d Taylor of Glendale, left this week for his navy base in Alaska. He spent ten days in Glendale after . visiting with his parents and sis ter in West Fork, Ark. j Billy Lapp, who teaches at Doug las High School, visited over the weekend with his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gaedecke, of Azalea. Mr. and Mrs. Henry La Prath of Glendale and Mrs. Nora Gaedecke of Azalea, attended the Gold Star Mothers meeting in Ros'eburg re cently. Plans were made for hold-' ing a food sale next week to help: raise money for special Thanksgiv- j ing baskets. Mrs. Ida Basye of Glendale has returned from a three-week visit with her son-in-law. and dauchter. Jlr. and Mrs. Ira Tucker, at Port j Orford. GEORGE EDES Kay Befus, principal of Yoncalla Union High School represented this school at the Oregon Personal Guidance Assn. meeting, held in Lincoln High school in Portland, Saturday. The State Guidance prac tice was reviewed and presented. Xr. Sievers, a well-known coun selor, spoke on important subjects. Oct. 26. is the date for the coun ty work shop for teachers to be held in Roseburg, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. Topic for the workshop will be "How to Best Help All the Students in the Class Rooms." There will be no school on that day. The date for the Junior play has been changed to Nov. 13 and 14!h. "Dear Diary" will be presented by the following juniors: Virginia Thorp, Janet Maxwell; Ricky Booth, John Maxwell: Virginia Cur rier, Connie Maxwell: Jean Mill, Betty Lou Maxwell; Charles Boan, Wilbur Maxwell; Earl Hishley, Hercules: Janelle Mathis, Berna dine; Bob Clark. Marvin; Norma Latham, Aunt Mary; Carol Abbott, Miss Murray; Don Teague, N. J. Mallory: Bonnie Shirley, Molly; and Judi Byron, Miss Lewis. Gladys Rogers, Jim Booth and Juanita Johnston are competing for a National Honor Society Scholarship. The test was given at Yoncalla High School, Oct. 20. In order to qualify the students had to be a member of the Honor i Society. There will be sixty one scholarships and awards totaling ; S33.000 given for all high schools , in the U.S. . j The elementary school of Yon-: calla began its ?arent-teacher con- ference Monday.
