Aside from such specific indi viduals as Clare Boothe Luce and Lewis I.. Strauss, the principal controversy centered around the lag by the Senate Judiciary Com mittee in acting on judicial nomi nations. Some Republicans as sailed the committee as a road block. However, by the time the ses sion came to an end early Tues day, all but four of the judges nominated oy lusennower naa been confirmed. The only nomination rejected was that of Strauss, former chair man of the Atomic Knergy Com mission, to be secretary of com merce. After one of the bitterest battles of the session, the Senate refused by a 49-46 vote to confirm Strauss for the Cabinet post in which he was already serving. On Disappointment At a news conference two days ago, Eisenhower said this was one of the biggest personal dis appointments of the session to him. Airs. Luce was confirmed as ambassador to Brazil by a 79-11 vole but then refused the post, saying her usefulness had been impaired by the denunciations of her by Sen. Noted Specialist Consulted Prior To Twins Surgery PORTLAND (AP A London physician came here for a consul tation, today with surgeons who who wili attempt to separate the Stubblelield Siamese twins next monlh. The University of Oregon Medi cal School said Dr. Ian Aird flew here last night from Los Angeles. Following consultation here he will leave for New York en route i home to London. A university spokesman des cribed Aird as one of the world's foremost authorities on Siamese twin. Aird has performed several sur gical separations of twins, the spokesman said, and has compiled much of the medical profession's literature on the subject. Earlier this week, the medical school hospital announced that surgery would be performed on the twins, Jeanett Kim and Denetti Linn Stubblefielri, early in Octo ber, probably between Oct. 5-10. The twins were born June 29 at Nyssa, Ore., to Mr. and Mrs. James Stubblefield, a Parma, Idaho, farm couple. Doctors have said there Is S chance the twins' livers are connected.
