TIMBER CITY CHAPTER of Sweet Adelines will
be the hostess chapter for the chapter show to be
sponsored June 13 at 8 p.m. at the Riverside
School gym. Other groups have been invited to
participate in the show. Tickets may be secured
at the door the evening of the performance. Fol

Present Recital
A very interesting piajio recital
was given by pupils o Miss Gladys
Strong on Tuesday evening, May
26th. The program was presented
very largely by boys. The group
consisted o young beginners, ele
mentary, .and advanced students.
They were a talented group and
showed real musicianship being
well developed according to their
level of advancement.
The recital was given at Miss
Strong's residence studio on South
Main Street. The families and
friends of the pupils who played
were invited. A social hour was
enjoyed and refreshments served
after the program.

Anniversary Noted
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hutchinson
of Roseburg were honored at their
60th wedding anniversary Sunday
at the Kellogg Grange Hall. About
150 friends and relatives were pres
ent. A potluck luncheon was serv
ed at 1:30 p.m.
Following the dinner a short pro
gram was enjoyed. Mrs. Floyd Mc
Michael of Curtin played her gui
tar and sang several numbers, fol
lowed by a comedy skit by Edith
Gates and Pat Anderson. Mable
Rader then read a history reading
of the honored couple. A beautiful
decorated cake was served by Mrs.
Franklin Haines.

Recent Bridal Shower Held
To Honor Miss Sharon Brown
Miss Sharen Brown was the re
cipient of many lovely and useful
gifts at a recent bridal shower
held for her at the home of Mrs.
L. D. Long on Carnes Road. Mrs.
Maxine Parker and Mrs. Merle Lil
ienthal were co-hostesses.
The rooms of. the Long home
were beautifully decorated with
spring flowers in profusion, and
the traditional white wedding bells
were suspended over the gift table.
The evening was spent in playing
appropriate games, with prizes be
ing received by Miss Diane Stoffel,
Mrs. Jack Trent, Mrs. Helen
Brown and Mrs. S. L. Lindberg.
Miss Sharon Means assisted the
honoree in the opening of her gifts,
after which the hostesses served
the dainty refreshments.

farewell party Saturday evening.

Present Special Program
Members of the Glendale Blue
Bird groups, the Bluebells, under
the leadership of Mrs. Joan Mehl
and Mrs. Frances Price; and the
Bluejavs, under the leadership of
Mrs. Floyd Taylor, Mrs. Elbert
Meyers and Mrs. Rodney Swan'
son. honored their mothers at i
special program held on Sunday
afternoon. May 17, at the Glendale
Masonic Temple.

Blue Bird Wish
The Bluebells did a graceful
maypole dance with a maypole
wound with blue and white crepe
paper streamers.

sang and acted out "Clementine,"
with Pat Stapleton and Peggo Jo
Edson taking the parts of Clemen
tine and the Miner.
The skits were followed by the
singing of a song, "Mother," in
honor of the many mothers who
were present.
The program was concluded by a
promotion service in which several
Blue Birds were advanced to the

gram Friday entitled, "Jumbo
Hunts for Spring." Mothers and

The Glendale Federated Garden
Club honored Mrs. Ruby Gilbreath
at a farewell potluck dinner and
handkerchiof shower held at the
Glendale Masonic Temple Tuesday
at 1 p.m.
The room was beautifully decor
ated in the centennial theme. Ta
ble mats and napkins bore centen
nial motifs. A large bouquet of old
fashionsd flowers arranged In an
old-fashioned tea pot, and old-fashioned
oil lamps were used on the
table. Dutch iris and mixed spring
flowers were used at Uie ends of
the table.
The gift table was covered with
a hand-made lace cloth. Miniature
pink- roses in a blue hobnail vase
made a dainty centerpiece.
Mrs. Gilbreath, whose husband
is retiring after six years as prin
cipal of the Glendale Elementary
School, was instrumental in the or
ganizing of the club in November
of 1954 and served as us nrsi presi
dent. She has honored the Glen
dale Club by giving demonstra-
t ons in driftwood and liower ar
rangements in many clubs of the
S skivou and umpqua aisuicis,
She served as District Horticulture
Chairman in 1956. 1957 and 1958.
She worked on the State Awards
Committee in 1956 and 1957 and is
now serving on the District Awards
Committee.
When school is out, the Gil-
breaths will return to their home
near Camas, Wash.

The Northside Sunshine Club had
a potluck luncheon Thursday noon

A banquet honoring elementary
school pupils who won awards was
held at Lincoln Junior High School
Thursday evening.

about 75 pupils. The dinner was

Mrs. George Riggs, the guest
speaker of the evening, Mrs. Riggs,
a former member of Job's Daugh
ters, was graduated from Oregon
State College and is a member of
the local association of AATJW.
Mrs. Riggs amused her audience
with her humor in a talk entitled
'What to Expect From College"

The Junior-senior banquet held
at the Elkton High School Satur
day was enjoyed by the junior and
senior class and their guests and
faculty members. A ham dinner
was served by tho junior moth
ers with the freshman class serv
ing tables.
During the program, the welcome
was given by David Comoton. iun-
lor president, followed by tho re
sponse by Joe Whitlow. The class
prophecy was read by Bud Bishop
followed by a piarto solo by Lois
carnes. Joe Whitlow read the class
will.
The motif of the banquet and
prom was Hawaiian. The tables
were appropriately decorated.
The evening was spent dancing
to the Wayne Wagner orchestra
frm Roseburg. The gymnasium was
also decorated in the Hawaiian
theme.

Honor Women Members
Men of the Azalea Grange hon
ored the women at the regular so
cial meeting recently at a pancake
supper. Tho dining room tables
were decorated with lilacs and pan-
sics.
Miss Ardith Meyers presented
three sets of dancing by her young
people's square dancing class as
the main program afterward. The
men served ice cream to the young
people and their parents after their
part of the program.
During the evening, a contest
was held to find the mother of
the evening, and the title was
awarded to Mrs. Cecil Wcnderoth.
A corsage was presented to her.

Calapooia Women Hold
May Meet And Dinner
The Calapooia Women's Club
met Wednesday at Umpqua for the
May meeting. A dinner was served
at noon, with Mrs. Frankio Moore
and Mrs. Vera Bacon as co-hostesses.
The long table was center
ed with bowls of roses and Iris.
A quilt for welfare was made dur
ing the day.
