Shoemaker, Douglas County health officer, today advis ed Douglas County residents of ways to limit mosquito and fly nuisances around the home. His office also issued a warning to prospective picnickers who may suffer food poisoning through the improper handling of food as the warm weather approaches. The health officer said a mere cupful of water and a week of warm weather will breed a crop of two or Ihree hundred "hungry mos quitoes," and not much more is required for flies. "Sometimes our eave troughs, an old tin can, a bird bath or a com post pile will keep us pretty well supplied with insects all summer long," Dr. Shoemaker said. Sug9ition Made For i nuisance-free spring and summer, his office is suggesting home owners check their property for stagnant water and rotting veg etation or animal waste. Mosqui toes and flies seldom travel far from their hatching places. "Encourage your neighbors to do the same," Dr. Shoemaker said. "If you still have trouble, call your county Health Department or in sect control program for assist ance." Regarding food prepared for pic nics, the health officer offered a rule of thumb piece of advice: "Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold," he said. This prevents germs from developing the toxins which cause food poisoning. Such standard picnic Hems as potato salad, deviled eggs, cream pies and baked ham can be the source of serious food poisoning if given a chance, the doctor ad vises. He warned also an infected hand scratch can cause trouble if it is exposed to food. Powers Recess A-Ban Parley GENEVA (AP) The three-power conference has adopted three draft treaty articles, including one providing for permanent suspen sion of nuclear weapons tests, and has recessed until April 13. American. British and Soviet delegates also approved articles calling for periodic review of the operations of a test ban and for registering the treaty with the United Nations. The actions .today represented the first substantial move forward in the conference since before Christmas, when four draft treaty articles were adopted. The articles approved today were not too controversial. The basic difference between East and West slill remains. This revolves around the refusal of the Soviets lo accept an international inspection and control system to guarantee against violation of a test ban. ' it,? TOMORROW MARCH 22 6:00 P.M.
