Permit To Build
Columbia Bridge
At Astoria Given .
SALEM (AP) The states of
Washington and Oregon have
been granted a permit by the
Army Engineers to build a bridge
across the Columbia River, Ore
gon Highway Engineer W. C. Wil
liams said here.
"That doesn't mean a bridge is
going to be built." he said. "It
will have to ba finanaced first."
Both legislatures must first de
cide if they can afford the spsn,
which Williams estimated will
cost about 20 million dollars.
The permit approval, Williams
said, marks only one preliminary
step. He said a j.unt committee
of eight bankers will release find
ings on the economic feasibility
of the bridga in about a month.
