During the business meeting a dis cussion was held on assisting in the Roseburg Community Christ mas Fund to be used for baskets for the needy. Mrs. Paul Abeel was appointed to attend future meetings of the committees in charge. Home Economics Club will meet Wednesday at the home of Olhe Kreuger. Mabel Stephens will be co-hostess. Election of Grange officers will be held Nov. 18. The PTA kitchen band will entertain. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kaiser and children visited during the weekend at Callahan, Calif., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill ChrUtianson. who are operating a restuarant there. Hunters from Melrose in East ern Oregon recently were Robert Hill Jr., Kenneth Miller. David Schrader, Ronnie Rogers. Don White, R. D. Manning and son. Bob; Mr. and Mrs. Wes Newman and Henry Landers and son, Wal ter, and Douglas Matthews. Carol Manning and Gaye Thomp son of Salem spent the weekend in Melrose with their families and went deer hunting. Asks Red China To Extend Cease-fire WARSAW. Poland (API The I'nited States called on Red China Friday to extend the cease-fire at Quemoy, authoritative sources re ported. Informants said U.S. Ambassa dor Jacob Beam urged the step when he met Wang Ping-nan of Red China for a seventh, and pos sibly crucial, session of their se ries of talks on the Formosa crisis. Arthur Hotnitch, pas tor of Hucrest Church, left Friday for two weeks of evangelistic meet ings in Idaho and Eastern Oregon. He was accompanied by his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Wright went to Cottage Grove Saturday to see the junior high school football game. Their son, Mickey, is a mem ber of the Roseburg squad. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bagshaw and children. Joe and Becky, returned home Sunday night from a week end duck hunting trip near Klam ath Falls. Lynn Travis of Hollywood, Calif., left Saturday for his borne after spending the week here as the houseguest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mav. Travis at one time made his home here with the Mays. Mr. and Mrs. Harold McCormack of Dixonville and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leighton of Myrtle Creek i returned home Sunday following a 10-day trip to the Burns area where they went deer hunting. The "ic 1 Cormack children. Gary, Linda and Bill joined the group the first week end of hunting season, returning home Tuesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. White have returned from their vacation, the first part of which they spent in Phoenix, Ariz., and the latter half enjoying tours of Bryce Canyon and Salt Lake City. Both Mr. and Mrs. White will return to their work at The News-Review tomor row. Robert Jacobs of Grants Pass was a recent visitor at the home of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Black. He made the trip here in company with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Jacobs, and his brother. Larry, all of whom went on to Portland to visit. On their return, the latter .three stay ed here overnight with Mrs. Ja cob's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Sanders. S Family In Green Paid Visit By Newsman By MARY WEIKUM . Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Dee Cum mins of Hanna Street this week was her nephew. Richard Kenas ton, recently of Anchorage, Alaska. He also visited friends at Myrtle Creek and Tri-City, and his cous ins, Mr. and Mrs. Jean Edwards of Austin Road and Mr. and Mrs. Don Cummins of Roseburg. Kenaston graduated from Rose burg High School in 1M8. After college he taught at Tri-City for three years before entering the service, part of which was spent in Anchorage, where he also Uught last year after his discharge from the army. Kenaston left Wednesday for San Francisco, and planned to sail im mediately for Europe. His itinerary included visiting the World's Fair at Brussels and touring several oth er European countries as well as Egypt and Russia. He ia working on special assignments for the Geographic Magazine and news commentator Lowell Thomas, and will take pictures and send news items for publication by the maga zine and news papers. He expects to return to the states late in 1959 or early in I960. Couple Has Daughter Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Foree of Eugene are the parents of their second daughter, born Sunday at a Eugene hospital. The baby is the grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Foree of Roseburg and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jacobs of Green. Mrs. Foree left Tuesday to be with her daughter-in-law and care for the children for the remainder of the week. Mr. and Mis.
