"1 Applications Accepted For T & I School Courses Applications froia students Inter ested in trades and industries classes at Roseburg High School are being accepted now, according to Dick Boss, director of adult and vocational education in the Rose burg schools. He said he may be reached at the high school. Boss also asked employers who have jobs for. stu dents on a part-time basis to con tact him. Charles Crouch Funeral Today Thur., Aug. 21 1958 The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore. 3 Funeral services for Charles Huron Crouch, 71, Camas Valley, are scheduled for today at 2 p.m. at The Chapel of the Roses. Vault interment will be in Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Crouch, a lifelong Oregon resi dent, was born at Camas Valley Jan. 15, 1887, the son of Albert and Caroline Crouch. As a youth he moved to Coquille where he worked as a logger and was a member of the Coos County Fire Patrol., Thirty years ago, he returned to Camas Valley where he was ac tive in the logging industry until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Mar garet, of Camas Valley; a son, Melvin, of Los Angeles; and a daughter, Phyllis, Camas Valley. Appliance Finance Co. Is Reorganized Hera Appliance Finance Co. of Rose burg has been reorganized with 12 of 16 associates still operating the business. Notice of retirement from the organization was filed Wednes day with the county clerk by Ray J. Netzel, Delvin J. Squires, Ro land E. Shelman and Douglas M. Hays. Former associates then filed a certificate assuming the business name. They are: Ruby M. and Billy A. Wenner berg, Jack C. Smith, Arthur E. Hammond, Glen B. Clute, Joseph W. (News-Review photo by Darrell Maddox) Strange Sight Greets Roseburg Area Motorists, A strange sight came rumbling down Highway 99 Wednesday from Eugene, strange that is for high way travelers. It was a 46-ton self-propelled gun on it's way to the Douglas County Fair. Gov. Robert D. Holmes granted a special permit to move the enormous tank over the highway. Marine Corps officials said they believe this is the first time a tank of this size has been driven over the highway in the western part of the United States. It is usually transported by railroad. The machine was driven to Rose burg by S.Sgt. Harold Smith and Funeral Services Held For William A. Sutton Funeral services for William Austin Sutton of Grants Pass were held Monday at Grants Pass and interment followed in the Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Sutton died Aug. 13, of a heart attack at Klamath Falls. Survi vors include his wife, Edna of Grants Pass; two sons, William of Alabama and John of Seattle, Wash., and a daughter, Mildred Crosslyn of Hawthorne, Calif. RETIRING FROM BUSINESS Art and LaVerne Huckins of Drain have filed notice of retire ment from the fuel supplies busi ness with the county clerk and recorder. Wednesday they record ed a certificate as operators of the Drain Fuel Co. Sgt. Arthur West, members of the Second 155 Gun Battery, Marine Corps Reserve unit at Eugene. It British Flaunt Fishing Boars In Iceland Waters LONDON (AP) A British fish ing fleet of 100 boats sets sail this week to challenge Iceland's ban on foreign fishing within 12 miles of its shores. The Royal Navy is sending gunboats to protect them. Iceland's fishing nan goes into effect Sept. 1 and its government has said any incursion of the banned area would be regarded as an attack on Iceland, a NATO ally. Britain and other European countries charge that Iceland's or der is an infringement of freedom on the high seas. Keel Of Atomic Powered Scorpion Laid Wednesday GROTON, Conn. (AP)-The keel for the Scorpion, an atomic-powered attack submarine, was laid Wednesday on the building ways in the south yards of the General Dynamics Corp. Electric Boat Di vision. The ways were vacated Tues day when the nuclear-powered Triton, the world's mightiest sub marine, slid into the Thames River. Commission of the 252-foot long Scorpion is scheduled In 1960. West and Smith will drive the machine back to Eugene Monday morning. Cost of the tank is $202,000. The Eugene reserve unit has two of them. Six Servicemen Die In Headon Highway Crash FLORENCE, Tex. (AP) Two autos collided headon with ter rilic impact on a winding road just north of this central Texas town Wednesday night, killing six servicemen. Four were members of a re serve unit taking summer train ing at Ft. Hood, and the others were regular Army men stationed I at Ft. Hood. Both autos were demolished. Everyone in both cars died. The four reservists were identi fied: Sgt. James Cobb, 26, next of kin his wife, Patricia Ann, of Monroe, La. Sgt. Lacey Stinson, 25, next of kin his wife, Mary M., of Dallas, Tex. Cpl. John Manley, 21, next of kin his wife, Sandra Kay, of Mon roe, La. Cpl. Machiell Nasser, 22, next of kin his mother, Lilly M., of Shreveport, La. The two regular Army men from Ft. Hood, riding in the other ear ana Kiuea, were laenmiea as: Sgt. Leonard Zimmerman, 26, next of kin his mother, Emily, of San Antonio, Tex. Sgt. Thomas E. Fred Brauninger, chairman of the Grange blood drive in the Suth-erlin-Oakland area, said today his committee believes the goal will be met. He said posters, post cards and telephone calls were being used to assure a sizable turnout.
