Schosso o( Tenmile received a call from their son, Sgt. E. T. Schosso telling them of the birth of a son weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces, born to Sgt. and Mrs. Schosso at Mountain Home, Idaho, June 9. Mr. and Mrs. Jack McKay and family are moving back to their home in Tenmile. McKay has been employed at Moses Lake, Wash., but is now driving truck for Plum lie Co. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Christopher son and daughter Gayle of Rose burg drove to Red Bluff, Calif., to topherson's uncle. Glen Deitz and family, her mother, Mrs. Wayne Deitz and son, Scott, cousin, Louise Deitz of Mesa, Ariz., and Pat Andrus. They returned home Sunday evening. Their daughter, Lori, visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Coats in Tenmile while '.hey were away. Mrs. Leone Dickinson will spend part of her vacation acting as adult counselor at the Methodist Church Camp at Dead Indian Camp near Soda Springs. Lester Forney and Robert Ben son have both accepted summer employment in Roseburg. Among those planning to attend school are Mrs. Donna Scarth, who will attend Mt. Angel's Women's College, and Beverlv Lavens who will study at Idaho State College. Mrs. Phyllis Bradley will go to Ashland to further her studies, and Lorraine Jenson also plans to go to school. To Study Mrs. Arthur Judd will be at home this summer while her husband studies for his doctorate at Ku gene. Recent visitors in Green were Mr. and Mrs. Al Petersdorf and Glide Baseball Star Completes Spring Training By MRS. ARTHUR SELBY Dick Smith, popular baseball slar in the 1956-57 American Legion Ju nior League Baseball team, who was signed by the Dodgers after graduating from Glide High in 1957, completed his spring training at Vero Beach, Fla. He is now at Thomasville, Ga., playing right field with the team. He has to play 130 ball games Ihis season. Dick attends baseball School in the mornings to learn the fundamentals. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith of Glide. Visiting Father Allen Smith Jr., cousin of Dick, all-round athlete of the 1957 class at Glide High, completed his fresh man year at Shasta College at Red ding, Calif., and is spending the summer visiting his father, Allen Smith Sr., at Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maxwell moved Tuesday to Recdsport where the former will teach sci ence and mathematics at Reeds port Junior High, and Mrs. Max well will teach first grade. They will take their vacation at Mon mouth where Maxwell will attend College of Education and Mrs. Maxwell will attend a workshop at the college in August. Recent guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Simpson from Reno. Nev., were Simpson's moth er, Mrs. Effie Simpson; his broth er, Jeff Simpson; his aunt, Mrs. Ettie McMahon, and his grand nephew, Garry Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pinion and son, John, will spend their vacation at Monmouth where the former will attend summer school at the Oregon College of Education. Pin Ion is seventh grade instructor at Glide Junior High School. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Casey and six children moved from Springfield Monday with their 45 ft. trailer house to the North Ump qua Trailer Court. Casey is an em ploye of Hale Bros. Logging. The evening of their arrival Mrs. Casey was rushed to a Roseburg hospi. tal for medical treatment. children of Castro Valley, Calif. Petersdorf was principal of the Green school for three years, and is now assistant superintendent of elementary education in Castro Val ley. The Pctersdorfs visited with many former friends and dined with the Jack Holmgren family of Glengary. They also called on Mrs. Petersdorf 's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bui Peth- ersam of Lookmgglass. Mrs. H. A. Doyle recently re turned from a trip to Eureka,. Calif., in company with Mr. and Mrs. Vern South of Roseburg. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Vern Leonard and family and also attended com mencement exercises for Charles Leonard. The Leonards are former Green residents. Charles will re turn to Oregon this fall to con tinue his studies at Milo Academy. Serviceman Visits Mr. and Mrs. John Chancellor went to Olympia, Wash., to visit their son, Cpl. John Chancellor Jr. and his family. Granddaughter Sadi accompanied them home for a short visit. Mr, and Mrs. Keith Husen en joyed a camping and fishing week- Frl. June 13, 1958 Th New-Rview, Roieburg, Or. 7 end at Diamond Lake. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. James Freeman and Doyle Press nal of Roseburg. Grandmother Mrs. Carl Husen cared for the Hu sen children during their parents absence. Mrs. Robert West and small daughter, Dannette, of San Fran cisco, are visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Amundson. Mrs. West took a part in the installation of the officers of Job's Daughters Winston-Dillard Bethel 53. Mrs. West was charter honored queen of the bethel. Fire Extinguished In Dillard Auto By BRUNETTE WILSON The Winston - Dillard fire de partment was called to Dillard re cently to extinguish a fire in a car belonging to Roger Howl. Ac cording to fire chief Mike Neclcy, the fire started from a short in the wiring to the battery. Approx imately $50 damage was done to the car. In Coos Bay L. E. Shiglcy of Winston was in Coos Bay over the weekend transacting business. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cracroft, who reside on South Dillard High way, are in Eugene for the week attending state grange session. Cra croft is the Douglas County Grange deputy. Winston Dillard Kiwanis Club held a 'ladies night' meeting this week. Highlight of the meeting was a talk given by the Rev. Gordon of the First Christian Church of Roseburg. His subject was, 'De linquency and Spiritual Guidance Donnie and Larry Flecher of Roseburg are visiting in the home of their grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. M. D. Flecher of Winston, while their parents, Dr. and Mrs. M. D. Flecher are attending (he northwest osteopathic convention now being held in Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Walter Mustola and children of Portland were recent guests in the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Renard, of Winston - Section. Mrs. Mustola also visited another sister, Mrs. Pat Moran, and mother, Mrs. Bert Austin, in Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Cook, who have been residing in the Slug ley duplex in Winston, have moved Roseburg where they have pur chased a home.
