Kslon Humphrey of the Mediord Lions Club, a candi date for district Governor of 36E, was the installing officer. Other new officers in addition to Unralh, who served ai first vie president this past year, are: Bernard Saar, first vice president; Pat Manning, second vice presi dent; Newell Morgan, third vice president; Harold Stein, secretary, Willard Buchanan, treasurer; Ren nie Secanti, tail twister; Frank von Borstel, Lion lamer, and Keith Bryant, Lea Carr, Dick Fra ley and Conrad Laham, directors. DIAL OR 3 5544 Oregon Farmers Received 2 Per Cent Leu In Miy CORVALLIS (AP) Prices re ceived by Oregon farmers dropped 2 per cent from mid-April to mid May. Mrs. Elvera Horrell, extension agricultural economist at Oregon State College, said this week, however, stale farm prices were still 2 per cent higher than mid May of 1957. . It was the second straight month thai Oregon farm prices had de clined, Mrs. Horrell said. She said that a decline in prices of potatoes, hay, dairy products, lambs and food grains more than offset price increases for feed grain:, beef cattle, calves, wool, and eggs. ABNORMAL PRESSURE TOKYO (AP) The govern ment meteorological observatory announced abnormal pressure waves, presumably caused by a U.S. nuclear test at Bikini, were felt in Japan at 8 a.m. Wednes day (1 p.m. PST Tuesday). The itate Board of Education took no action on the recommen dation of Hi professional commit tee that the minimum ichool year be increased from 170 to 180 days of actual classroom instruction. The board asked Rex Putnam, state tuperintendent of public in struction, to study the question, and report to the board at its next meeting Sept. 4-6. At that time, the board is ex pected to refer the question to the 1959 Legislature. The board received a letter from Kenneth Barneburg, Douglas County school superintendent, ask ing fur a 180-day school year to permit "more emphasis on basic subjects." But M. C. Deller, Roseburg school superintendent, said the Roseburg school board wants it left at 170 days. Two Eugene women, Mrs. Fred Fox and Mrs. Edward Williams, wrote in support of a 170-day school year. Delays Action The board also delayed action on proposals to increase high ichool graduation requirements. It said it wants more information from local school officials. The board announced that I. E. Brogoitti, Helix, would become board chairman on Aug. 1. He will succeed Mrs. Lucille O'Neill, Kla math Falls. Brogoitti recently was elected president of the National Assn. of State Boards of Educa tion. Other action by the board: Permitted Beaverton Union High School to reduce the length of its classes from 60 to 40 minutes. This is necessary, the board said, be cause the school will have to go on double shift because of over crowding. Approved appointment of.an avi ation consultant for the schools. Approved the driver education handbook to be used la teaching pupils how to drive. Voted to support a statewide con ference on "the role of the secon dary school" to be hell' here Nov. 6-7. First Cttle Shipment To Leave New Zealand AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) The first shipment of 1,300 head of live cattle to he sent to San Diego for the Modern Imperial Cattle Co. of Imperial, Calif., will leave Tauranga hv sea in 10 davi. It will be the first of 10.000 head to be shipped over a year. Meanwhile, another American has arrived in search of meat. Robert Griffith, of the Southern California firm of R.G. Griffith Meat Co., after a fruitless quest in Australia, comes "with no in tention of jumping in feet first, pressuring anyone or wrapping things up in five minutes."
