Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cederstrom of Glendale Baptist Church Vacation School Monday Glendale Southern Baptist Church has scheduled its vacation Bible school June 9-20, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Classes will be held for all children from three years through 16 years. Fox, correspondent. munitv service activities Wicks has been president of the parents Band Club for Koseburg High School, and Boy Scouts have benefited from his interest The Wicks family share in Red Cross work. He is superintendent of Sun day school and teaches a preist hood class and contributes to the charity work of their church. They are the parents of three children, Tom and Sharon who are also grange members, and Becky, who is one vear old. The Wicks have both held sever al offices in grange. At the present time Mrs. Wicks is lecturer and he is steward and chairman of the fair booth committee. Sharon has placed on the county youth talent contest for the past two years. Tom is youth chairman of the youth group and serves on a fun committee. Each subordinate grange parti cipating in the contest submits the record of its nominee to the State Grange which meets in Eugene June 9 -13 this year. From this list of nominees an Oregon young couple of the year will be selected. The state winner will in turn be considered for top national honors in the contest. State winners will receive an all expense paid trip to the 1958 annual convention to be held at the Pantlind Hotel in Grand Rapids, Mich., Nov. 10-19. Bailey of Prairie , City, Ore., former residents of Dil lard, has won an all-expense paid trip to New York City, the United Nations and Washington D.C. Bar- j bara is the granddaughter of Mrs. ! Edith Bailey, who resides in the . Kohlhagen apartments in Roseburg, and Mrs. Mary Shigley, of Wins ton. She is a former student at Douglas High School. She won the trip for an essay on "The United : Nations" and for giving the best unrehearsed speech. She will leave Portland July 11 with 15 others from Oregon. They will go by spe cial chartered bus through Canada and down through the New Eng land states to New York City. They will stop at points of interest along the way. PETERSBURG, Fla. i Eight Negroes swam at the all white municipal beach Thursday and minutes after they left, the swimming area was ordered closed. City Manager Ross W i n d o m said the beach would remain closed until City Council decides what it wants to do about the properties. Signs were posted and guards stationed in the beach area which adjoins the city's long municipal pier jutting into Tampa Bay. Also a part of the swimming area is the spa pool. OR 3-8184 Roseburg, Oregon Ark ED WYATT District Supervisor Portland Pair Indicted On Extortion Charges PORTLAND (AP) Two Port land men, accused of taking part in a nursing home shake-down racket were indicted on extortion charges by a Multnomah County grand jurv Friday. Thev are Alfred E. Kiefer, 35, and James Q. (Slim) Jenkins, 36. The indictment accuses the pair of threatening Ada E. McCarthy, the operator of a nursing home, with harmful publicity unless she purchased advertising in their newspaper. Langley Loses Attempt To Dismiss Indictment PORTLAND (AP) Former Dist. Atty. William Langley Thurs day lost an attempt to have an indictment against him dismissed. Circuit Judge Charles Redding denied a motion to dismiss an in dictment which charged Langjey with conpiracy to receive a bribe. The indictment was returned against Langley at the height of Portland's vice probe last year. Langley was removed from of fice after being convicted of fail ure to prosecute gambling.
