Air Force Claims It Could Launch 1,000-Lb. Moon By ELTON C. FAY WASHINGTON un The Air Force believes that if called upon, it can launch a thousand-pound vehicle into space by next June, using its Thor IRBM weapon. House Accepts Senate Changes In Military Bill WASHINGTON 1 The House rushed to President Eisenhower Thursday an emergency bill a pria.ing $..410,0O0.WO to spee the missile and air defense ppro- speed up pro grams. By voice vole the House ac cepted Senate amendments to a hill passed originally by the House Jan. 23. Action came after Rep. Mahon (D-Texl. rriairman of the Defense Appropriations Mihcommittee. ex pressed hope that "somewhere, somebody in the government will decide what is needed so that we can cut out the red tape and con fusion and get on with the work." The bill appropriates $1,260,000, 000 in cash and authorizes the De fense Department to use 150 mil lion dollars from previously ap propriated money. The cash includes 350 millions for the Navy and 910 millions for the Air Force. The Navy allot ment contains funds to start work on three atomic submarines ca pable of firing the Polaris mis sile. The Air Force fund includes money for such things as new missile bases and for dispersal of Strategic Air Command bases.
