Clarence Smith hat moved fromm their former address on NE Stephens to 3409 Harvard Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. McCain of Madras stopped here briefly one day last week en route home from Medford to visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Rappe. Mrs. .McCain, and Mrs. Rappe are cous ins. Mrs. Ralph Sherwood and two daughters have returned home from a 15 day vacauon trip In Cal-1 ifornia. They spent some time with the former's son, Leroy Sherwood, and family in North Hollywood, and visited with many friends in the Southern California and San Francisco Bay areas. They enjoy ed seeing Disneyland. Knotti Ber ry Farm and the Forest Lawn Memorial Park among other plac es of interest. Miss Dalberta Simonson, daugh ter of Mrs. Alia B. Simonson of Koseburg, has returned to Stan ford University at Palo Alto, Calif., where she is a sohpomore major ing in humanities and minoring in the Stanford Honor program. Miss Simonson was the recipient of the Elizabeth Crossett tuition schol arship for outstanding achieve ment in the field of humanities. She is employed as a part-time secretary at the university regis trar'! office. Mrs.. John Donovan of Tigamook was a recent visitor here of Mrs. . Jack Clark and family. ; Mr. and Mrs. Charlas Fina.rlosi spent a recent weekend in Albany1 as the guests of the former's broth-1 er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fmgerlos. j Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Chandler! visited recently in Bend with their! daughter and family. They werej joined there by their son, Russell ' C. Chandler of Salem, a former j resident of Roseburg. Mrs. Bill Emberlin of Port land, the former Therese Atter burv of thia city, '-as just return ed from an eight-day all-expense paid trip to the Hawaiin Islands. She made the trip in conjunction with her work as an instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Stu dio in Portland. While in the Is lands, Mrs. Emberlin stayed at the Princess Kaiulani Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carey have returned from a three-week vaca tion during which they visited friends and relatives in Lincoln. Modesto, Long Beach, Los Ange les and San Diego, all in Califor nia. They spent Christinas with their son, Ken Garey, and family, formerly of Roseburg, now living in San Diego. They visited Knotts Berry Farm, Marineland, Balboa Park, Palomar Observatory, then on to Arizona to the (irand Can yon of the Colorado River. They report sunny and warm weather on the whole of their trip. Mr. and Mrs. William Welborn of Lillian, Mont., have been visit ing here at the home of Thomas Meehan and family. Recent two-y visitors here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clair. Whelchel were Mr. and Mrs. Virg il Bohlkeoof Portland. Or. and Mrs. B. R. Shoemaker have returned from Portland where they spent three days diir ing which the doctor attended a medical convention. Prison Escape Artist Ciptund In Nw York NEW YORK i Albert Joseph Kostal, prison escape artist who made his last break from a Colo rado jail while awaiting trial on a murder charge, was captured by FBI agents Friday night at a sub way entrar'e near Times Square. Kostal pulled a gun on FBI Agent Frank H. Gerrily. 37, and shot him in the leg. Gerrity grap pled with Kostal and the gun went off again, this time wounding Kos tal in the leg.
