The ermit was for a house addition. This presents quite a drop from ie preceding month when four ermits were isued with a total valuation of S47.62U. The November total was boosted uruiderably by the issuance of a ermit for the New .Mvrtle Creek owling alley, which is now under unstruction. The total evaluation n that structure was listed at 10.000. Portland ! credit rating bureau, for the past year, claims that there are more ; business concerns in Roseburg to day than in 1956, according to the ' bureau's district manager, J. Har ry White, Portland. Figures obtained are from a physical count of th Dun & Brad I street Reference Book for No : vember, 1957, which lists 530 man ufacturers, wholesalers and retail ers, compared to 492 listings in Roseburg for 1956 an increase of 38 such businesses. Not included in the listings are some of the service and profession-1 ai Dusinesses sucn as oarber and beauty shops, stock and real es tate brokers. According to the re port, the figure thus for business es in Roseburg actually would be I'JPli y ilill aaaiaiiarMpaaa higher than th number quoted above. In the only other survey madt in Douglas County, the Dun It Bradstreet report shows Reedsport holding steady with 93 businesses in both the November, 1956, and November, 1957, listings. The credit reporting agency mailed over 3 million requests for financial statements on January 1, to all businesses listed in the Ref erence Book. The Portland office mailed approximately 30.000 such requests no firms in Oregon and Washington and th financial state ments received provide a basis for a credit rating. DisL. Mgr. White states that "more than 95 per cent of all com mercial transactions are made on credit terms and the credit rat ing is a key factor in these trans actions.
