o 0 Dave Beck Seeks Additional Time SEATTLE I The Seattle limes said Saturday Dave Beck has asked for additional time in which to determine if he owes the western Conference of Teamsters and Teamsters Joint Council No. 28 Building Aisn. more money or has a refund coming. In 1954, Beck made an agree ment calling for .-n accounting and repayment of loans received from the two Teamster organ izations. Since then he has re paid $370,000 and three times, has postponed the date of final account ing. The most recent final account ing date was Dee. 31, 1957. Three-Year-Old Boy Has 15th Operation KANSAS CITY fJf) Although he is only three years old, Michael Lee Himmel Friday underwent his 15th major operation. He was in surgery for more than two hours in an operation involving his nose. The boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Himmel, was born with a cancerous condition of his right cheek. He had his first operation when he was 10 days old. Since then he had undergone 13 opera tions for skin transplants and plastic repair work. Physicians said the malignant condition has disappeared. UH A cloud scanning television camera will be mounted in one of the United States satellites, savs a Dhvsicist at California Institute of Technolo- .sy- The camera will be able to pick up only objects at least 10 miles in diameter, but it will be useful in transmitting "a picture of the cloud cover over the earth," Dr. Albert R. Hibbs said in an ad dress Friday night. Hibbs is chief of the research analysis section at Caltech's jet propulsion laboratory, which is putting together one of the satel lites for launching early this year. The camera, said Hihhs, will transmit only upon signal from a receiving station on Uie ground. It will be contained in a 20-pound package which will include bat teries, he added. ONE WAY STREETS PORTLAND I Beginning Sunday, parts of Grand and Union avenues on Portland's east side now carry only one way traf fic. The city plans eventually to in crease the one-way routes to 37 blocks. Missing Bend Family Turns Up At Los Angeles BEND, Ore. I A missine Eend family has turned up in Los Angeles at the end of what started out to be a short drive New Year's Day. James Thompson called his landlord here Saturday to say that he, his wife and their daugh ter were in Los Angeles and were all right. The family, he said, had started on a short drive, gone to Klamath Falls, 140 miles south of here, and then decided to continue to Los Angeles. As Thompson made his phone call, 50 men and several planes searched rugged, snow covered foothills for them. The search began after the Thompsons failed to keep a din ner appointment last Wednesday. Police began the search be cause they thought the family mignt have gone into the foothills to take pictures and had become lost m the heavy snow. Why they went to Loi Angelei instead was not clear. Western Pine Assn. Says Orders Dipped PORTLAND The Western Pine Assn. says 1957 orders, shipments and production of western pine all dipped below the 1956 pace. Last year's production was 4 119.012.000 board feet. This rep resented a drop of 7 per cent from the 1956 figures. Shipments dropped 4 per cent 1957. to 4.1(15.528,000 board feet. Another Sharp Drop In Polio Cases Told WASHINGTON lPI - Another sharp drop in the number of polio cases last year was reported Sat urday by the U.S. Public Health Service. The service said tentative fig ures put the number of cases dur ing 1957 at 5,894. That compares with 15.400 in the previous year ana a.ttv in i55, me first year in which Salk polio vaccine was generally used. The service said the attack rate : was significantly lower among per-; sons who had received polio vac cine, adding that: i "Approximately 7 per cent of the paralytic and 17 per cent of the nonparalytic cases reported in 1957 had received three or more injections-of vaccine." S. shipping pilot who worked 15 months on the Suez Canal, tells newsmen in Rome Jan. 2 that he was expelled from Egypt by Police who forced him to leave Ismailia home barefooted. He said the police refused to tell him why he was being ousted. Kenel, whose home is in Bronx, N. Y., soid that his election to the Suez Canal employes syndicate which opposed pay reductions proposed by the government's Suez authority, may be one of t hereasons for his ouster. The 410th game, which tied what is regarded here as the previous record, was rolled with a score of 211. The Rev. Mr. Jen sen then set his new mark with 174 pins in the next game.
