Mr. end Mrs. George Winterfeld and baby daughter, Jennifer, went to Medford Friday to visit and then Sunday enjoyed a trip to Crater Lake and back to Rose burg. They formerly resided in Medford. John Stanley, of the Western Li brary Service in Los Angeles, has been a visitor in Roseburg the last few days at the Douglas County Library. Mr. Stanley has known the assistant librarian, Muriel Mitchell, for a number of years. According to word received here, Mrs. A. J. Carman, a former resi dent of this city, died of a heart attack in San Carlos, Calif., Satur day and funeral services were held in that city at White Oaks Chapel Monday afternoon. She is survived by one son, Max Car man, of San Carlos. Her husband died a few years ago in Portland, after which she moved to San Car los to be with her son. She had been in excellent health and only a month ago visited in Portland. Her husband was a railroad em ployee out of Roseburg for a num ber of years prior to moving to Portland. David Allen, weighing 8 pounds Vi ounces, was born in Richland, Wash, to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas G. Marshall. The baby is a grandson of Dr. and Mrs. George W. Mar shall of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Young of Los Angeles visited here last week with their son, Jed, al the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Young, on Hawthorne Drive, en route to Portland and Seattle to attend the gift shows. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd D. Moore left Sunday evening for Portland where they planned on spending several days visiting their son and daughler-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Moore, and children. John has recently returned from An kara, Turkey, where he was sta tioned with the U.S. Air Force. Mrs. R. D. Coen and Mrs. Ro land West drove to Medford last week to pick up the latter's daugh ter, Mrs. Michael Coen, and chil dren, Ricky and Michelle, who ar rived there by plane from Sacra mento. The Cocns took their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Michael Coen, and two children to Portland Friday, where they were joined by Mr. Coen, who flew down from Van couver to be with hisi family. Mrs. Coen and children expect to return here Wednesday. Mrs. Coen is the former Barbara West of this city. Brian Booth of this city went to Eugene for the weekend and Sun day took part in a friend i wed ding. Mrs. Clair K. Allen and Mrs. C. B. Wade of this cny left Monday by plane for San Francisco to see the play, "My Fair Lady." Mrs. Allen's nephew plays a juvenile lead in the play. Mrs. B. J. Schearer of this city has had as visitors her daughter, Margaret, and family of Eugene, who stopped over here en route home from a fishing trip at the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice South wick of National City, Calif., have been visiting their daughter, Ruth, who is stationed at Old Blue Forest Service lookout, and with the for mer's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Southwick. Catherine Ann, weighing 7 pounds 9 ounces, was born in Port land July 21 to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mindolovich, former residents of this city. Mr. Mindolovich was staff artist for the News-Review before going to Portland to be an artist for the Oregon Journal. The ftiindoioviehes have two sons also Mrs. Harrie W. Booth of this city took her granddaughter, Judy Scofield, back to the latter's home in Fort Lewis, Wash. Sunday and will remain there for a time to assist in the care of her new granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Scofield, who was born recently to Lt. and Mrs. Charles Scofield. Mr. and Mrs. Sturglll Walker of this city are now in Victoria, B.C. on their vacation according to word received here by friends. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Boomer of Klamath rails were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. Turn- age. The two families enjoyed two days deep-sea tishing on the 1 urn age boat al Winchester Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Houston of this city spent the weekend in Newport visiting the latter s aunt, Mrs. Glenn Barrows. They enjoyed atienaing tne snnners annual pic nic at Mary's Peak Sunday. Private James Helliwell is leav ing Thursday for Washington D.C., where he will be stationed by the Army in the radio department at Walter Reid Hospital. He has been spending his leave here with his wife and with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Helliwell. His wife will join him later. Dr. and Mrs. D. B. Bubar have left on a two months' vacation trip to Denver, Colo, and points of interest in the East. While they are gone Mrs. John Hill, of Los Angeles, who is here visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jack P. Bathrick, will stay in the Bubar home on SE Cass Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Young and grandson, Jed Young, left Satur day for Ashland to attend the Shakespearean play "Othello," and from there went to Klamath Falls to visit Mrs. Frank Howard, whose husband died suddenly last week. The Youngs and Howards have been close friends for a num ber of years. Dr. and Mrs. H. B. Scofield have returned to their home in Rose burg, following a trip to Fort Lewis, Wash, to visit their son and daughter-in-law, Lt. and Mrs. Charles Scofield, and to see their new granddaughter, Mary Eliza beth Scofield. En route back to Roseburg they stopped over in Gresham to visit their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray mond aconeid, and family. Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Frazier re turned Saturday from a week's va cation trip to Idaho and Nevada. In Hagerman, Idaho, they visited the former s mother, Mrs. H. O. Frazier. and in Twin Falls with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle A. Frazier. Also visiting there during their slay was another brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl A. Frazier, and daughter of New York. Gertrude Julia Fogel, 1164 NE Freemont Ave., has successfully met the requirements of the Ore gon State Board of Nursing, and received her license to practise as a registered nurse. Mrs. Fogel was graduated from Los Angeles Gen eral Hospital School of Nursing. She served in the Army Nurse Corps and studied Public Health at the University of California. She is also licensed in the states of California and Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Richard McGarritv of Portland were weekend visitors in Roseburg at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd D. Moore. They were en route home from San Francisco, where they had visited several days following attendance at the State Labor Council con vention at Klamath Falls. Mr. Mc Garrity was a delegate to the con vention. Roseburg has been select ed for the 1958 State Labor Coun cil organization. Mr, and Mrs. Harold Mo and children, Bardwell, Arthur, Gayle and Lyle, of Grand Junction, Coio., ave returned to their home, fol lowing a visit here with Mrs. Moss mother, Mrs. Esther Gilli- land. and her sister, Mrs. Jack West, and family. Also visiting Mrs. Gilliland were her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Cle burne Gilliland and children. Lor ry, Diane and Dwight of Areata, Calif., who have returned home. Mr, and Mrs. Jim Woodward and son, Jim Jr. and Bill, have moved back to their home on Stanton Street in Roseburg, after living in Myrtle Point since the first of the year. Mr. Woodward is with Han ley and Post Logging Co. Cora Sue and Richard Selander of Eugene have been guests at the home of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. William McLaughlin and son, Dick, in Roseburg. Mrs. McLaughlin took them back to Eugene Monday by car. Miss Pat McGraw has returned to her work as record librarian at Douglas Community Hospital, aft er spending the last two weeks vacation. Accompanied by a friend, Miss Yvonne Henault, of Chehallis, Wash., and Miss Peggy Williams, of Roseburg, a trip to Medford and Crater Lake was en joyed over the weekend. Mrs. S. A. Warg of this city played an organ concert of sacred music at the Glendale Olivet Pres byterian Church Sunday at 3 p.m. Mrs. Ware will open her orean and piano home studio at 418 W. Maple M. Sept. 3. Mrs. Kenneth Oaklev and four children have returned to their home in Bend, Ore.,.following sev eral aays nere attending to prop erty interests and visiting friends. The Oakleys formerly resided here, at which time Dr. Oakley was an eye, ear, nose and throat specialist, before moving his of- uces io Bena. Mrs. Harvey R. Wells has re turned to her home in Roseburg, lonowing a week m Portland visit ing at the home of her son and daughter - in - aw. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wells, and family. Mr. Wells ana mcir son-ui-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Llovd Walker, and children, Ricky and Diane, of Rose- ourg, arove to Portland to bring her home. They were accom panied back to this city bv their grandson, Bobby Wells, who will spend the week here visiting them and also at the Lloyd Walker home. Recent visitors at the 11. O. Jen sen home on SE Lane Avenue were Mr. Jensen's uncle and aunt, Air. and Mrs. H. M. Jensen, of Ta- coma, and his aunt, Mrs. Kather- ine Weltzien of Vagsvagmaaloy, Norway, whom he had not seen for 20 years, and Ron Barrows and Dick Miller of Portland, who stop ped over to visit en route back to their homes, following a trip to California. Ron is a nephew of Mrs. Jensen. A visitor of the last week end was Mrs. Jensen s aunt, Mrs. Hazel Miller, of San Jose, Calif., who has been visiting relatives in Reedsport. Mrs. T. R. Burr has returned to her work in the offices of Young Walpole Accounting Co., following a vacation. Mr. Burr, who is on vacation from Evans Products for two weeks, and Mrs. Burr and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Roard and children, Bonnie and Bob, and nephew, Barry Fry, of Whittier, Calif, spent the weekend at Lake side. The Burrs were accompanied by their niece. Tammy Young, who has been spending the last several weeks here visiting from Port land. Barry Fry has been employ ed here during the summer with the Forest Service and expects to leave soon for his home in Whit tier. Ron Young, who has been work ing with the Forest Service in Eastern Oregon since being gradu ated from High School in June, visited over the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo F. Young. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Plummer and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Plummer, of this citv. and their son - in - law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Pe tersen, and babv. Adnenne, of tu- gene, drove to McMinnville to at tend the Lamb reunion, which is the family of Mrs. Earl Plummer. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Pepple and daughters. Patty and Lynnette, are back at their home here, fol lowing a stay in Bonanza visiting the former's brother, Owen Pep ple, and family. Patty had been visiting there for the last week and was brought home by her parents and sister. Mr. Pepple is with the Douglas County Title Co. here.
