OP Two Oregon State College entries were defeated Saturday in the prelimi naries of the national collegiate swimming championships here. Larry Beck finished fourth in a 200-yard breaststroke heat, and Dale SweaU placed fifth in a 440 yard freestyle heat. NEW ORLEANS uP The Ralph Dupas-Vince alanines light weight fight, center of i contro versy, may be held in Indianap olis May 2 if it it barred here. Lee Farb, Indianapolis pro moter, Sunday night o i f o r e d Heard Regas, local sponsor of the fight, to co-promote the bout in Indianapolis if he cannot stage it here next Monday night. Farb' telephoned Regas that the fight between Dupas, fourth-ranking lightweight from New Orleans, and his Paterson, N.J., opponent "is the top ring attraction in the country at present and Indianap olis would be honored to present it as such." The controversy arose when the Louisiana State Athletic Commis jsion opened a stormy hearing last 'Friday night on the racial back ground of the New Orleans light I weight. Tha commission reached ino decision and recessed until I Tuesday night. I Then City Judge Ren Viosca I scheduled a hearing for Tuesday j morning on an injunction request ed by Regas that could stop the commission from continuing its inquiry on Dupas. That was Philadelphia Phillies' third baseman Willie Jones' re action Sunday after he was hit on tha head by a thrown ball dur ing a play at second base in the second inning of the game which the Phils lost to Cincinnati, 3-1. Jones had singled and was head ing for second on a ground ball hit by Roy Smalley. Cincinnati second baseman Johnny Temple grabbed the ball and threw to shortstop Alex Grammas at sec ond for tha force on Jones. Gram mas let go a bullet throw toward first in a double play attempt. It struck Jones at almost point blank range. Jones is one of the few players who wears his plastic batting hel met while running bases. The ball split the peak of his helmet and caromed off to ccnterfield. The veteran infielder was hurried to a hospital for X-rays, which showed no fracture. A doctor used six stitches to close a cut on his head and said Jones would be able to return to action within a few days. Last spring Jones suffered a hair line skull fracture when he was struck above the left ear by a Don Mewcombe pitch in an ex hibition game with the Brooklyn Dodgers, lie was hospitalized for five days and out of the lineup until shortly before the opening of tha season. St. Louis Cards 51 Bill Virdon. with three hits, and Ramon Mejias and Dick Rand, with a couple each, paced the winners. Larsen Wins Gam Don Larsen was the winning pitcher as the New York Yankees trounced the Kansas City A s 7-3. The big right-hander, who shackled Brooklyn last fall, gave up 10 hits in seven frames. The Philadelphia Phillies lost 3-1 to Cincinnati and also nearly lost the services of Willie Jones, their veteran third baseman. Willie was hit on the forehead by a ball thrown by Redleg shortstop Alex Grammas, who was attempting to complete a double play. Jones is one of the few major leaguers who wears a plastic helmet while on the base paths, so he'll be side lined only for a few days. Cubs Edge Giants Behind the two - hit hurling of rookie Dick Drott, the Cubs edged the New York Giants 3-2. Both Giant runs came as a result of home runs, by Gail Harris and Dusty Rhodes.
