The work is. scheduled to be completed in 21-23 months. Cancer Victim Christmas Shops Then Succumbs ASHEVILLE, N.C. I Mrs. Rodie Parks, a cancer victim who drew on her failing strength to Christmas shop for her loved ones from an ambulance stretcher, will not see them get the presents she selected. The 33-year-old mother of four died in her sleep in her hospital room Tuesday. Doctors had told her she pro bably would not live through the holidays. A worn, dog-eared prayerbook was found beside her in the bed, Mrs. Parks, whose youngsters range in age from 8 to 12, requested last Monday that she could shop "once more for my children and those I love." A store opened its doors and had all its clerks at work 30 minutes early. The story of her shopping trip stirred response from two contin ents. The cards and letters she received numbered more than 15,000.
