A request that the Anchor School be re-opened came from residents in the area who objected to the lengthy transporting, tome 65 miles, of their children to Canvon ville for class. The board, appar ently unable to finance the school, then went to the rural board for assistance. That joint meeting in Roseburg recently drew only a part of Can yonville board, and no decision was made. CanyonvilU Library Extendi Opening Hours Canyonville city's library has ex tended its hours to 2 to S p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoon, according to Mrs. Le Roy Morris, librarian. The library was formerly open from three to five p.m. on the aft ernoons specified, but increase in circulation has extended its serv iced tnree Hours a week. Turkey Shoot Slated ByVFW By RUTH EVANS Thacker Wallace Post 7752 Vet erans of Foreign Wars and Auxil iary met recently and made plans for a turkey shoot to be held Sun day, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m. at the Neal King Ranch in Myrtle Creek. Commander Ed Swinney, appoint ed Bud Schmalz to be the post Civil Defense chairman, and Aux iliary President edith Glessner appointed Mrs. Don Buttle to serve as defense chairman. The Auxil iary voted to give $10 for "canteen books" for the veterans at t h e Roseburg hospital. The members sent a 15 check to the VFW Nation al Home at Eaton Rapids, Mich., to be used for Christmas treats for the orphans. The group will hold a joint Christmas party Dec. 21, at S p.m. at the Vets' Memorial build ing at Tri-City. There will be no gift exchange, but Santa will oast out candy to the children. Cooties Visit Vets Hospital The Roseburg Military Order of Cootie visited the Roseburg Vet erans Hospital last Sunday and as sisted with the recreation program. Those attending were Walter Cal lahan, Mickey Mulver and Ed Hoover. Tuesday the American Red Cross held its monthly birthday party. Entertainment was provided bv children from Myrtle Creek. Wednesday the Drain Camp Fire Girls sang Christmas carols and oo Thursday the Glide High School Carolers sang. On Friday the American Red Cross will hold its educational talk. The speaker will be Miss Carol Trimble, county librarian. Saturday the Roseburg B. P. 0. of Elks will hold a variety show in the afternoon, and in the evening the Roseburg Woman's Club will have its monthly proznm. On Monday, the 17th. the all organization dance, sponsored by the members of the Veterans Ad ministration Voluntary Services Ad visory Committee, will be held from 7:30 to 10 p.m. All the ladies of the community are invited as hostesses. Presidential Electors To Convene In Salem SALEM Ufi Oregon's tix Re publican presidential electors will meet here at noon next Monday to cast their votes for President Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon, Secretary of State Earl T. Newbry announced Wed nesday. Their vote will be mailed to Washington, D. C, where the vote of the electoral college will be canvassed. The six Oregon electors are: Niel R. Anti-Government Violence Flares Around Poland WARSAW OK New anti-gov ernment violence was reported in Poland Wednesday in the wake of! the mob attack on tne boviei con sulate at Stettin. Eighty-eight per sons, many of them youths, were reported jailed for the Stettin riot. Trybuna Ludu, official organ of the Polish United Workers (Com munist) Party, disclosed a crowd attacked a police building in Oleeko, a town near the north eastern city of Bialystok. The Communist paper reported that crowds demolished municipal offices at Nowy Ciechocinek in the northern midlands. Other demonstrators beat up a local Communist Party secretary at Nieszawa, in the tame district. The paper added: "More tuch incidents can be reported." Poland's nationalist Communist government, seeking to avert any repetition of the Soviet military 'French Airliner Brings 45 Hungarian Athletes MILAN, Italy UB A French airliner landed here Wednesday with 45 Hungarians from the Olympie Gamea in Melbourne. Mott of them were expected to go on to Budapett by special train. "We must return to Budapest because our families are there," one member of the' Hungarian water polo team told reporters. Dr. G.
