Local Community News Briefs T Portland Paul Kruegcr and son, George, were business visit ors in Portland Wednesday. Houseguestt Miss Sunjha Im and Jim Tan, University of Ore gon students, were the houseguests of Mrs. Ethel Chase at her home on SE Main last week. Portland Visitors Mrs. Cecil Lindley and sons, Raymond and Jim, and the Iatter's fiancee, Miss Connie Mays, all of Portland, spent a recent weekend visiting at the home of the former's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David Weaver. They also visited another daughter, Mrs. Russell Baker. California Visitors Recent Houseguests at the home of Mrs. Norman Olson were Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. McCuan of Glen Ellen, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Rav of Areata, Calif. Both families, 'for mer residents of Roseburg, had been enjoying Oregon fishing and visiting friends in Scottsburg and Elkton. To Brownsville Mrs. Norman Olson and Mrs. Mamie McKay of this city and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Olson of Mountain View, Calif., went Saturday to Brownsville to pick up the Frank Olsons' daugh ter. Keri, who had been visiting with an aunt Mrs. Jackie Rosen. Mr. and Mrs. Olson and Keri left Sunday for their home in Califor nia. Attend Services Among the many visitors in the Roseburg area who attended the Sabbath services in the local Seventh-day Adventist Church last Saturday were C. A. Bauman, Arlington, Calif.; E. H. Olson, Riverside, Calif.; Effie Ross and Howard Johnson, Can yonville; Mrs. M. Birdsell, - Ft. Scott, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Hilligoss, Bandon; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Neuman, Burlingame, Calif.; Mrs. Grace Fairburn and Lillian Eish, Spokane, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hartley, Arlington, Wash.; Lcona Manor, Retsil, Wash.; Wilda Crose, Torrance, Calif.; and Ruby Mason and Lois Wolford, Portland. Working Mrs. James Walker has become an additional member of the .office staff at Umpqua Ply wood. J To California Charles De Guire left by plane Monday for Santa Rosa, Calif., to spend a week attending to business matters. Enters Senior Year Vernon Keel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keel, has left for the University of Ore gon where he will enter his senior year as a pre-law student. Back From Canada Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miller and children, Barbara and Rex, returned recent ly from a week's trip to Williams Lake, Canada, where they were the houseguests of Mrs. Miller's brother-in-law' and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Futrell, and children, Patsy Lou and Donna Sue. From California Mr. and Mrs. Frank Olson of Mountain View, Calif., paid a visit recently to the former's mother, Mrs. Norman Ol son, following a vacation at Silt coos Lake and Winchester Bay with the Loren Lovelands of Palo Alto, formerly of Roseburg. They also enjoyed the mail boat trip up the Rogue River to Agness. To Corvallis ' Mr. and Mrs. Charles DeGuire and son, Lynn, have returned home from Corvallis after accompanying Mrs. De Guire's daughter, Nancy McFar land, to Oregon State College where the latter will enter her sophomore year. Miss McFarland, who is ma joring in business science, will be staying at the Pi Beta Phi sorority house. Here For Visit Mrs. Ethel Parker of Ontario, Ore., and her daughter, Mrs. Iris Ryder of Weis er, Idaho., arrived in Roseburg re cently to visit the former's sister, Mrs. R. C. Morris, 2060 Harvard Ave., who has been seriously ill at her home. Mrs. Ryder has re turned home and Mrs. Parker will remain here for several days. Mrs. Morris is also the sister of D. A. Kier and Mrs. H. S. Cain, both of Roseburg. Enjoying Weekend Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Savage ire enjoy ing the weekend fishing at Agnes. Back To Work Mrs. E. R. Kenny has returned to her work as business office supervisor for the Pacific Telephone and Tele graph Co., following two weeks va cationing. Weekend Guests Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Barnes of Eugene were weekend guests at the home of Mr. AND Mrs. Harry McClure. Mr. Barnes is a brother of Mrs. Mc Clure. Visitor Leaves Mrs. E. Q. Schmeer left for her home in Port land Thursday, following a visit in Roseburg with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Srhmeer, in Laurelwood. Visit Doans Mr. and Mrs. Dale Ahlcrs of Rio Linda, Calif., have left for their home following a two weeks' visit here with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Doan. They chose this time for a visit so that they might at tend the Tucker-Dodge wedding. Here For Wedding Among those who came to attend the Lin- son-Wilhams weddmg were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Golding of Grants .Pass, former Roseburg residents, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones of Spring- neid. Here For Week The Rev. A B. Jackson, retired Presbyterian minister from Jefferson City, nio., ana wno is supreme cnan cellor of the Knights of Pvthias. has arrived here to spend a week visiting his brother and sister-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. V. T. Jackson. The Rev. Mr. Jackson was grad uated from Roseburg High School in 1908. He worked for the old Plaindealer and the old Review, be fore taking up the ministry. He was a minister for 44 years before re tiring. ' Working Mrs. BiU Roberts has accepted employment in the office of Umpqua Savings and Loan Association. Visits Sister Mrs. Walter Ni- cholls has returned to her home here, following a week in Benton City, Wash., visiting her sister, who ts convalescing from recent surgery. Home For Weekend Miss Jo Ann, Keel, niece of Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Vernon Keel, is expected home this weekend from her stud ies at the Sacred Heart school of nursing. Leaves Wednesday Mrs. Vir gie Bain left Wednesday for Glen dale, Calif., to visit an aunt, Mrs. Lillian Watkins, after which she will continue on to her home in Arkansas. She has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Victor Moody, and family, 3140 NE Johnson, Rose burg, for the last few months. Enjoying Week Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shaw and son, Rickie, have been spending the week in Portland and Salem. They visited Mr. Shaw's parents in Salem. Both Mr. and Mrs. Shaw are employed by the Pacific Telephone and Tele graph Co. Johnsons Home Mr. and Mrs. Fuller Johnson have returned to their work at the News-Review, fol lowing a few days vacationing in Eastern Oregon and at the coast. In Prineville they visited Mrs. Madge Becraft. Johnson is circu lation manager of the News-Review. Here From Montana Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hanley and five-months old baby daughter, Marietta, of Butte, Mont., arrived in Roseburg Tuesday to enjoy a visit at the home of the former's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Hanley, and family. Visits Her Mrs. Percy Garri son has returned to her home in Portland, following a couple of days in Roseburg visiting at the Walter Nicholls home. Vacationing Mrs. Clarence Schrciner of this city, employee at the Umpqua Savings and Loan Association office, is vacationing this week. Leaves Teday - Harry Hilde burn Jr., left today for his home in Omaha, Neb., following his va cation visiting his mother and aunt, Mrs. Harry Hildeburn and Miss Gertrude Hildeburn, of this city. Back From San Francisco Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Dillard of this city went by plane Wednesday to San Francisco to attend the show ing of the new Mercury cars and then returned here today by plane. Dillard is the Mercury - Lmcoln dealer here. . " 6PW Club Hears Meeting Reports The Glendale Business and Pro- rfessional Women'! Club met recent ly -at the home of Mrs. Ida fcd son. The president, Mrs. Verneta Mar riott presented Past President Mrs. Ella Mae Irving with her past president's pin. Mrs. Irving was elected the position of treasurer, which was vacated by the resigna tion of Mrs. Dotty McDonald. ' Mrs. Marriott gave a report on the summer - t'ate board and President's meeting she attended at Coquille and on the next dis trict meeting which will be held at Klamath Falls Oct. 27 and 28. It was announced that there are now 61 clubs in the state with 1.732 membership! paid. Members discussed selling fruit cakes again this year and it was decided to order a quantity of the cakes to have on hand for imme diate orders. The hostess, Mrs. Verneta Mar riott, served refreshments. The next meeting will be held on Thurs day, Sept. 27.
