Reception Honors Mr. And Mrs. Townsend Mr. and Mrs. Bill Townsend, who were married June 8 in Merced, Lalif., were honored recently at a large community reception and bridal shower at Pine Grove Chap 1 el in Dixonville. Masses of summer , flowers decorated the large cen- Ural room. Mrs. II. E. Sanders, representing the congregation of Pine Grove Church, presented a corsage of Cecil Brunner roses to Mr. TnumonH r,A If n if.. ers played piano selections as guests arrived. i During the evening, party games were played, led by Mrs. Sanders. A lace-covered table with floral centerpiece held the gifts, which were opened by the newlyweds and displayed. A large tiered pastel cake was cut by the young couple, assisted ; by Mrs. Dale Hatfield. Assisting with refreshments were Mrs. Neil Hart at the punch bowl, and Mrs. Joe Brumbach who poured coffee and helped Mrs. Hatfield serve cake and specially decorated cup cakes. Also helping serve were Mrs. Don Morberg, and Mrs. Bar bara Lee, who was in charge of the guest book. Gifts were received from Mrs. Cora Collison, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Hart, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kinvon, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Hatfield, Gave and Grace Carol Smith, Mr. and Duplicate Bridge Winners Announced Duplicate bridge winners for the Friday afternoon play at the Elks Temple for North-South players were Mrs. R. D. Coen and Mrs. C. B. Wade, first; Mrs'. Chester Mor gan and Miss Helen Casey, second; Mrs. Harry Hildeburn and Mrs. Frederick J. Porter, third, and Mrs. Walter Fisher and .Mrs. Wal ter Ulrich, fourth. East-West win ners were Mrs. J. M. Bevans and Mrs. John H. Robinson, first; Mrs. James Richmond and Mrs. A. J. North South winners for Tues day night's play were Mr. and Mrs. Mrs. Marvin Honored At Mrs. Richard Reece, Miss Car ole Newport and Mrs. C. E. Rich ardson entertained at a charming pink and blue shower party in compliment to Mrs. Marvin New port at the home of Mrs. Richard son on SE Lane Avenue. Roses and Sweet William formed the at tractive bouquets about the rooms. Lovely gifts were presented to the guest of honor from the two hostesses and from Mrs. C. E. Richardson, Mrs. Glen Richard son, Mrs. Dick Gadway, Mrs. Don Starmer and Ardel and David; "OLD FRIENDS' ENJOY PICNIC PARTY FRIDAY Mr. and Mrs. Harry Davis and Mrs. Charles Hafer were co-hostesses at a charming "Old Friends" picnic Friday at the home of the Charles Hafer on Dyke Lane, Dil lard. The bountiful potluck dinner was served buffet style around noon. Those attending who had all lived on Rice Creek 50 years ago were Mrs. Marie Henry of Win ston and daughter, Mrs. May Hen ry McCurdy of Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Rex Walker, Lottie Purdue of Roseburg; Mrs. Orpha Smith of Rice Creek and daughter, Mrs. Al berta Woods and Arlene of Rose burg; Mrs. Myrtle Rice and Mrs. Annis Blaskey, Mrs. Fred Alberlus and her mother, Mrs. Bessie Rov er and the two hostesses, Mrs. Hafer and Mrs. Davis. Those unable to attend who were invited were Cleveland and Gol die Kranti. Many group pictures were taken of the "Old Friends," who spent the afternoon reminisc ing about earlier days on Rice Creek. Umpqua Rebekah Lodge Holds Special Meet Umpqua Rebekah Lodge 173 of Elkton, held a special meeting last Friday, to entertain Ethel Gibbs, president of the Rebekah Assem bly of'Oregon, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows from Ocean lake, Ore. Among the guests was Mary Barker, vice president of the Re bekah Assembly of Oregon from Sutherlin, Gardner Reedsport and from the jurisdiction of Washing ton. The Rebekah Degree was con ferred on candidates. After the meeting, the president showed colored slides of the Odd Fellows Home in Portland, the Historical Lodge of Jacksonville, Ore., and the Fleet of Flowers at Depoe Bay in which the Odd Fel lows ana Rebokahs participate each year. From Idaho Mrs. Christal McKinnon of Greer, Idaho, has been a visitor at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George McKinnon. one mane the trip to attend the wedding of her granddaughter, Mary ueann McKinnon, to Perry Welch June 30. Leaves For Portland Mrs. C. D. Albright has left for Portland to visit her son-in-law and daueh ter, Mr. and Mrs. L. K. Wcrn- sing. and sons. Jerry and Jimmv. She will be met in Eugene next Wednesday by Mr. Albright, who will bring her back to Roseburg Will Attend Funeral Mrs. G W. Marshall will go to Portland Sunday to attend the funeral Mon day of her cousin, Miss Mary F. Dunn. Miss Dunn died following an I illness of seven months. Mrs. Mar shall expects to return home either I Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. Leave For Sweden Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Erickson and daugh ter, Mary EUen, have sailed on the MS Stockholm (Swedish Amer ican Line) for Gothenbure. Swed en, to spend three months visit ing relatives. Mrs. Erickson and Mary Ellen also plan to tour Eu rope by Liniebuss before returning to Douglas County. Homo From East Mr. and Mrs. John Fread returned Thurs day from a month's trip which took them to Montreal, Canada, where they attended the Railroad Telegrapher's convention. They also spent some time in Quebec, New York City, Boston and Wash ington, D.C. Making Homo Hare Mr. and Mrs. Guy C. Perrin, who recently sold their business interests and residence in Coquille, have return ed to Roseburg to make their home. Mr. Perrin grew up in Rose burg and Mrs. Perrin, who was the former Genevieve Watson, taught school here before her mar riage to Perrin. Here For Wadding Expected to arrive here to attend the Reid- Atterbury wedding Saturday are Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Atterbury and daughter, Mary EUen of Med ford; Mr. and Mrs. Merle Land reth and Sylvia Jo and Jeffrey of Seattle; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Christlieb of Los Angeles. They will be houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Doyle. Arriving Monday Mrs. Wilbur McKee and children, Victoria and Richard, and Mrs. L. J. Houck and son, Jerry, all of St. Louis, Mo., are expected to arrive in Roseburg Monday. Mrs. McKee and children will spend three weeks here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mr. R. D. Williams. Mrs. Houck and son will spend a few days here, before going on to San Francisco and Lake Tahoe for the remainder of their vacation. Mr. McKee accompanied his family west as far as Seattle, where they are spending a few days visiting his mother, after which he will take the plane and return to his work in St. Louis. Mrs. McKee is the former Elizabeth Williams of this city. From there the group drove to California through the Red woods. They returned home the same evening. Eniov Fishing Trip Mrs. Lil lian Hill, who is on vacation for 19 days from her work at Doug las Community Hospital, and Mr. and Mrs. Art Winsor and lamuy have returned to their homes here, following a fishing trip to Odell, Davis and Crescent Lakes. They report good catches of fish. Leaves For Homo Mrs. Emma Hess of Litchfield. Minn., has left for her home following a 15-day visit here with her son and daugh- ter-in-Iaw. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hess of Winston. Mrs. Hess, the mother of H children, celebrated her 63th birthday while here. Ten of her children and their families live in the east and Jim Hess, whom his mother had not seen for six years, is the only son living on the West coast. Mrs. Hess attended the rodeo during her visit here, the first she had seen. She also visited with her grandson, Jim Fite, and his family. The amount of $17,126.50 is on deposit in the city treasury, but a vote of the people is required before the funds, can bo used to pay operating expenses of the city. The supplementary budget, if ap proved, will clean up old claims and bills against the city, and budgeted and actual expenditures may balance. Since the money already ia on hand, there will be no Increase in taxes, city officials said. Actually, two proposals will be on the ballot, since passage of the supplemental budget entails a charter amendment. WISCONSIN DAY SET Former Wisconsinites and their families are invited to a Wiscon sin Day picnic to be held Sunday, July 22, at Umpqua Park at the fairgrounds.
