They re. turned over the Willamette Pass and report they found a profusion of wild flowers blooming. Members of the Garden Valley Women's Club are urged to at tend the meeting of the club for election of officers lor the new term. The meeting time has been advanced to 1 p.m. Mrs. It. H. McLaughlin, Bay Cily, stopped on her way home from California, to visit a few days with her sister, Mrs. U. F. McLaughlin. During the meeting, a request was made by the president of the Douglas Assembly that the Re bekahs of the state sponsor the visit to Oregon of a Rebekah mem ber from the Netherlands, who would conduct about 20 meetings over the state. The Odd Fellows Lodge requested that members and their friends contribute to the Odd Fellows' Blood Bank. The new state president, Mrs. Ethel Gibbs of Ocean Lake, an nounced that she will be in Glen dale July 19 for the district convention. Oregonian Sued By Clyde Crosby, Teamster Head PORTLAND un Clyde C. Cros by, head of the Teamsten Union in Oregon, Tuesday sued The Oregonian,- two if its reporters, and James B. Elkins for $300,000. Crosby said he was libeled by articles printed by The Oregonian, and written by Wallace Turner and William Lambert, the reporters named as defendants. He said Elkins supplied ,the information for the articles. The Oregonian identified Elkins as financial backer for after-hours establish ments who supplied it with tape recordings. The Oregonian articles touched off a grand jury investigation here in which Gov. Elmo Smith re moved Dist. Atty. William Lang ley from control and replaced him with Atty. Gen. Robert Y. Thorn ton. Crosby's complaint repeats the first article with its headline: "City, county control sought by gamblers; top Teamster, seeks police chief ouster." Crosby said The Oregonian had accused him of meeting with the plotters and of moving into poli tics and trying to get the'police chief replaced. these 'false and libelous state ments," Crosby said, were mali ciously aired to bring him into "scandal, infamy and disgrace.' He asked a jury hearing of his complaint .which lists four causes of action and says he wants from the defendants "and each of them" $50,000 general and $100,000 punitive damages. Crosby's attor ney, Clifford D. O'Brien, said this means a total of $200,000 general and $100,000 punitive and not that sum on each of four causes. The grand jury Tuesday called Police Chief Jim Purcell as a witness. Mayor Fred L. Peterson was listed as on call for later in the day. New Residents Mr. and Mrs. Levi Brumfield and sons, 14 and 13, have moved from Boise, Idaho, to Roseburg and are residing at 1257 NE Walnut. Mr. Brumfield is with the Oregon Egg Producers. Move From Hood River Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bennett and two sons have moved from Hood Riv er to 156 SE Hoover St., in Rose burg. Mr. Bennett is employed as a mechanic for Sig Fett. Arriving For Visit Miss Willa Wilshire, who is assistant dean of girls at the Pens.cola, Fla., high school, is expected to arrive here in the next few days to spend the next month visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Wilshire. Attend Picnic Mr. and Mrs. Chester McGraw and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson and family attend ed the Minnesota picnic Sunday at Medord. Mrs. Johnson won first place in the women's foot race at the picnic.
