ONLY $1095 Armed Forces Day Plans Under Way; Program Slated ' Initial plans are under way (o stage observances of Armed Forc es Day on May 19 in Roseburg, in cluding firing demonstrations, an open house by reserve forces and various displays. Also planned tentatively is a downtown parade by local National Guard troops, possibly bolstered by veterans organizations and bands. The National Guard also plans a two-hour public demonstration of firearms, including' use of trac er ammunition, in the evening at the range just east of Roseburg. Coordinating activities of Army, Air Force and Navy reserves and of Navy, Marine, Army and Air Force recruiting personnel is M. Sgt. F. S. Kerschner, adviser to lo cal Army Reserve units. He is be ing assisted by T.Sgt. Richard A. Camfield,, Air Force Reserve liai son man. A joint open house will be held at the Army and Air Force build ing on the Veterans Administra tion Hospital grounds, Kerschner said. The Naval Reserve unit, which has headquarters nearby on Harvard Avenue, will join in the open house at the Army-Air Force building, the sergeant said. Films will be shown during the day, and equipment demonstrated. Major L. J. Chase, Eugene, is in charge of directing observances in the southwest Oregon area. An attempt is being made to ob tain a helicopter and tanks for the day's activities, and it is possible that Air Force planes will be able to fly over the city. The PTA has voted to sive two $150. local teacher scholarships to senior students planning on enter ing the teaching field; one going into the high school field, and one into the elementary field.
