Bethany Circle Plans For Year's Activities The Bethany Circle of Faith Lutheran Church held it's January meeting at the home of Mrs. R. H. Sacher. The program theme for tne evening was, "The Altar, it s Cloths, Linens and Ornaments." It was presented by Mrs. Lester Ol son. Mrs. Louis Michalek, circle chairman, appointed Mrs. John Labrensz in charge of altar flow ers; Mrs. Robert Trued, baptistry, and Mrs. Roland Springer, com munion vesting. Mrs. W. S. Samuelson, vice chairman, reported on the meeting of the executive board of the guild. They planned that it's purpose as an organization, locally and at large, will be supported through proceeds from four projects: a pancake supper, a fellowship din ner, a rummage sale and an an nual smorgasbord. Members from the four Circles, Martha, Ruth, Dorcas and Bethany, will work to gether on these projects. Recom mendations o the executive com : mittee will be presented to guild members at the march quarterly meeting. Refreshments were served bv the hostess. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Samuel son, 1750 SE Main St., Feb. 14. Panel Discussion Held By Presbyterian Women In response ' to the question, Who Am a a panel led by Mrs. Pete Motschenbacher answered the question at the Women's Society of the Presbvtenan Church meeting. Mrs. James Millar spoke as a Christian woman. Mrs. IN. D. John son drew attention to the beliefs of the church. Mrs. Richard Jur lev outlined the work of the United Council of Church Women, and the oDDortunities of a civic minded Christian woman were described by Mrs. Jack Chapman. Mrs. Motshccnbacher closed the discus' sion with a poem. Mrs. Clifford Babbitt, program chairman for the afternoon, intro duced Mrs. Arthur McMullen who presented an introduction to the sumy ot tpnesians, wnicn is me Bible book o the year for the church. The president, Mrs. Ivan Pick ens, conducted a brief business session. The dessert luncheon was serv ed by the hostess committee with Mrs. Paul Helwefi chairman. The next meeting of the society will be held Feb. 9. Mid-Week Bible Class -Has Meeting, Social The Mid-week Bible Class of St. Paul's Lutheran Church held a ! meeting and social hour at the home of Mrs. Herman HAshargcn in Glengary Wednesday. Sixteen members and friends were pres ent. The Rev. W. A. Sylwester led the group is a Bible discussion on the Book of Proverbs. Mrs. Garv Kummert was elec ted to serve as chairman of the ' group during the coming year. The class and the Ladies Aid are co ordinating the program for the church. Mrs. Svlwester sooke on the heart fund drive being started Feb. 2(1. Anyone wishing to help with the drive is asked to contact her. During the tea hour, the hostess served refreshments. She was as sisted by Mrs. Donald Hasbargen. The next meeting of the class will be held Feb. 15 at the home of Mrs. W. Sylwester. with Mrs. . G. Hart man as co-hostcss. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Henry Scott, the business ses sion was conducted by Mrs. Don Isakson, vice president. Calvin Peterson, Melrose School principal, presented a recorded panel discussion entitled "What Makes a Goof School?" following which he invited those present to express their opinions as to how the ideas brought out might apply to Melrose School. members and friends of the con gregation are invited. The City Library Board this week was aided by the Sutherlin Junior Chamber of Commerce in moving books from the library quarters in the old city hall to new room in the new city hall. The library board was to sponsor a tea in celebration of opening the new quarters. RIDDLE GROUP TO MEET There will be a general meeting of the Riddle PTA study group Monday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. in the school library, according to Mrs. Lewis Wool ley, chairman. After a 1 p.m. dessert luncheon served by members of the Hearth stone Circle, the program for the afternoon was given over to Mrs. Roy Fent who presented the de vitional service by reading scrip ture pertinent to the study of mis sions. Mrs. Fent then Introduced Mrs. Sam Warg who reviewed the book "Beyond the Hungry Country," by Louise A. Stinetorf. This book about Africa presents the country not through the eyes of an ordin ary missionary but through the eyes of one whose mission is to know the humor and vitality of a primitive culture.
