The Internal Revenue Service hag dis eltarijed a $352,605 tax lien anainst the late Albert Bacon Fall, secre tary of the Interior under the Harding Administration. S. P. Vidal, IRS director here, laid the lien was filed in 1936 for alleged unpaid income tax for the years 1921, 1922 and 1923. Paper Firm Boosts Newsprint Cost NEW YORK to Great North ern Paper Co. has increased the price of its newsprint by $5 a ton, effective Feb. 1, it was announced It became the second domestic ally owned producer to announce an increase in the latest round of newsprint price hikes. In addition, nine Canadian owned or affiliated firms have boosted their prices by $3 to $5 a ton during the past three weeks. Tambu rin, of Wheeling, W. Va., said he was sitting next to Mrs. Edward McGrath, 28, in a Peninsular Air Transport DC4 when it crashed after taking off from Boeing Field. Mrs. McGrath was the wife of Edward McGrath, a pilot who was moving his family to Miami, Fla., to take a job with Peninsular. With them were their three chil dren. ' Tamburin said he went out through a hole in the plane after ine crasn. "Then I saw the woman (Mrs. McGrath). She was screaming that one of her kids was still in the plane." "I got the kid and then she started back to the plane for her husband or something. I stopped her and just then the plane blew up." McGrath is listed as missing and presumed dead. Tamburin. interviewed in a hos pital, added: "1 was afraid to ride that plane. I prayed Thursday when 1 got off the boat that I'd get home safely." The soldier was one of 2,833 servicemen who returned here Thursday front the Far East Gen. R. L. BIRTHS Truck Driver Files Suit For More Compensation Truck driver Arthur W. Goodwin has filed two suits in Douglas Coun-. ty Circuit Court for additional com pensation for injuries received in uccidents on Aug. 14, 1954, and on May 12. 1955. Named defendant in each action is the .State Industrial Accident Commission, which has refused to grant more than 10 per cent per manent partial disability in each case. ... Goodwin was hurt last year when struck on the head and shoulders by a log coming off a load while he was driving truck for Kindred Logging Co. for the injuries, he seeks an award of compensation equal to 70 per cent loss of use of an arm. In the later accident, Goodwin was hurt when he jumped to dodge a log being loaded on a truck he was driving for John Bruesch. He seeks additional compensation un til his condition becomes salisiac tory, then award of compensation for permanent partial disability equal to 50 per cunt loss of use of an arm. I Committee Will Housing Project Study Need The Suthcrlio City Council has appointed a committee to deter mine whether the Douglas County Housing Authority project there is I still needed. The action was taken as the re sult of a $678 58 check offered the city by the housing authority in lieu of taxes. The Sutherlin Sun says the council expected to re ceive more. H says $800 was in cluded as the expected figure in the city budget. Members of the committee are: Councilman Hank Halverson Jr.. City Manager Hugh McKinley and Building Inspector J. C. Irwin.
