For this is "National Apple Week," an annual sales promo tion event limed to coincide with the peak harvest season. Smoked ham is another featured item on meat counters this week. Beef rib roasts and sirloin steaks are moderately priced, as is shoulder of veal. Frying chickens are a little higher in price in some cities, reflecting higher quotations at wholesale, but still constitute an excellent buy. Retail prices in the weeks ahead are expected to move up. Potatoes and onions are again the "outstanding" buys in produce the quality for most types is bet ter than usual for this time of: year. After the program, a regular business meeting was held and sev eral matters of business were transacted. Wholesale Food Costs Drop Lowest In Five Years NEW Vfirnr in " Wl,,.l.,.,l food costs as measured by Dun 4 Biadstreet fell this week to their lowest level in more than five years. At $6.08, the Dun & Bradstreet wholesale food price index was the lowest since the $6.04 recorded in the week of June 27, 1950, at the start of the Korean War. The index represents the total cost at wholesale of 31 basic food items. This week's figure com pares with $6.11 the previous week and is 7.7 per cent lower than the $6.95 index for the like week last year. Higher in price this week were lard, cocoa, . steers and lambs. I-ower were flour, wheat, corn, rye. oats, barley, beans, butler, cottonseed oil, hams, peas, eggs and hogs. Chrysler Raises Price On New Car Models DETROIT iji Price increases averaging slightly under 6 per cent on its Windsor line and 6.8 per cent on the New Yorker and Imperial lines were announced Wednesday by Chrysler division of Chrysler Corp. On the Windsor line the price advances range from S145 for Ihe Nassau model to S205 for the town and country waon. On the New Yorker series the increases range from $217 on the six passenger sedan to $2-18 on the convertible coupe.
