Sunny Brook dKAM) ;28-0, 5 4" Eisenhower Asks People To Speak Up For Highways WASHINGTON Ifl President Eisenhower Tuesday called on an organization of. motoring-minded citizens to "speak up again and again for prompt action on a high way system adequate for modern living." Eisenhower, whose multi-billion dollar highway improvement pro gram was rejected by Congress earlier this year, made the sug gestion m a message to the 53rd annual convention of the Ameri can Automobile Assn. (AAA) an organization whose aim is' to im prove driving conditions. The group claims 4.800,000 members, mostly passenger car owners. "The members of your associa tion know from experience how urgently needed is a road system in pace with our expanding popu lation," the President said. "Eco nomic growth must not be stunted by a creeping paralysis of traffic. "Motoring convenience, safe driv ing and national security must not be checked by a lack of roads. A modern road system is one of our great national needs," he con tinued. "1 hope all of you will continue to speak up again and again for prompt action on a highway sys tem adequate for modern living." His brief message included no specific details. Police, Relatival Seek Two Missing Women PORTLAND I Police and relatives Tuesday sought two Port land women who started out Sun day for i short drive and did not return. One, Mrs. Bernice N. Sharkey, 75, was a semi-invalid. The other, Mrs. Alvera E. Ferguson, 53, often took her for short drives. Mrs. Thomas Burns Jr. of Eu gene, daughter of Mrs. Ferguson, said the family was aiding in the search, concentrating on rural and mountain roads in Eastern Mult nomah County where it was thought they might have had an accident. Grandson Of Dillard Resident Injured Recently In Eugene By ROSA HEINBACH Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Dysinger that their four-year-old grandson, David, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Dysinger of Eugene nas oeen injured severly when the door of the car in which be was riding opened and he was thrown from the car. He is now receiving treatment in Sacred Heart Hospital in Eu&ene for a fractured skull and is report ed to De out ot danger. It will be remembered by friends that just two years ago he was run over by a tractor in his own back yard, and was hospitalized for over a month at that time. He had just recovered from that or deal with no ill effects when his recent mishap occurred. C. C. Dy singer is principal of the Dillard Elementary School. Visit San Mr. and Mrs. Jack Claiborne went to visit their son, Kyle, last Sunday at the Forest Ranger's sta tion where Kyle has been spend ing time at the lookout station above Tiller. The forest fires, be ing under control and the weather much cooler, they brought Kyle home with them. Mr. and Mrs. Claiborne and son, Kyle, and grandson, Rodney Bout well, left early Saturday for an ex tended vacation to Idaho where they will visit both Mr. and Mrs. Claiborns' relatives. Miss Martha Davis and her friend, Miss Nancy Long, of Pasa dena, Calif., drove to Oregon last week and stopped over to visit at the home of the former's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wed., Sept. 21, 195S The News-Review, Roseburg, Ore. 3 WANT PRICK RAISED PORTLAND (if! The Oregon Milk Producers and the Grade A Milk Producers Assn. of zone 2, Monday said they will seek an in crease in milk prices. Miss Ruth Ellen Cutlet of Elk ton is now making her home with Mrs. Mercy Buell while she is em ployed in the Douglas High School, leaching typing and shorthand. Mrs. Christine Simmons is also making her home with Mrs. Buell. She is teaching at the Tenmilc School. Attend Funeral Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Whit and children, Carl, Ray, Wanda and Eugene of Dillard returned Tues day from a hurried trip to De light, Ark., where they were called 10 days ago to the beside of Mrs Whit's father, Noah Higgens. Hig gens died of a lingering illness be fore they reached him, but they were able to attend his funeral while there. After visiting many of her relatives who gatherrd from various communities, they start ed toward home. They stopped in Dallas, Tex., to visit Whit's broth er, Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Whit, and family. Choir practice for the Dillard Methodist Church is set for Thurs day at 7 o'clock. Paul Dodd, music director of the Dillard Elementary School is scheduled to take part as' the leader. All former members of the choir and any men or women in the community who are inter ested in music are urged to attend. Uranium Dirt Debunked AUSTIN, Tex. 11 State Health Commissioner Henry A. Holle yes terday debunked "uranium dirt" treatments being offered in Texas. ' The healing value of dirt con taining minute amounts of uran ium isn't worth the time it takes a man to cover his aching feet," As Treatment For Ills Dr. Holle said in a statement. He said "dozens" of the so-called treatment centers started up after the idea spread that the allegedly radioactivity in the dirt was a cure-all for assorted aches and pains.
