Campmeeting Slated Here By Church Of Cod The annual Southern Osrgon Camp meeting of the Church of God is scheduled in Roseburg between Sept. 2 and 5 at the local church at 250 Chestnut St. Roseburg pastor, The Rev. How ard E. Baker reports representa tives of the church will attend the annual meeting here from Cottage Grove south to Ashland and from North Bend cast to Redmond. BAD CONDUCT CHARGED A salesman was charged with disorderly conduct Saturday after noon after he hurled a bowl of chili and a cream pitcher at a tavern cook who refused service to the jailed man's lady friends, ac cording to Roseburg police. Felix Barney Durall, 33, who gave his address as the Grand Hotel, is the arrested man. Police put him in custody at the Pastime Tavern after the incident. Exams Held Examinations were held at the school for school entrance with 25 first graders, 17 ninth graders and 13 upper classmen who are plan ning to go out for athletics. Greg Flynn fell while skating at the skating rink in Roseburg Mon day and had to have several stitch es taken in his chin. This is the first casualty to happen on the skating trips this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Complon and family visited at Crater Lake Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Orval Page. The Comptons stopped in Gold Hill and spent Sunday night with Mrs. Compton's sister and husband, the Melvin Willoughbys, and returned home Monday eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Carnes, Lois and Jim spent Saturday on the North Umpqua camping out. Sunday they went on to visit the Pages at Crater Lake. Howard Carnes is working with the county agent in planting sev eral kinds of corn and experiment ing with it to see which yields the highest. We will have a report from Carnes on his experiments this fall when the crop is harvested. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berry and l bottles only family have moved into a house at the Elk Creek Auto Court. Visit- Htr. Mr. and Mrs. Vince Stone and Carola and Mable Ann Wickdahl of Portland were visiting at the Norman Weatherly home from Fri day until Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Taylor and family went to Gold Hill recently to see Taylor's grandmother who is 82 years old. Taylor had not seen his grandmother for 20 years. While they were out there they decided to visit Diamond Lake and Crater Lake on their way home. Mr. and -Ms. Arley Marsh were in Portland last week on a busi ness trip. On their way home they stopped at the Rod and Gun Club in Cottage Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Emery Stewart and Mr. and Mrs. Ariel Hubbard at tended the Buckaroo Square dance held on the Si Dillard car lot in Roseburg Saturday night. Mrs. Agnes Johnson visited at the Harold Johnson home in Eu gene a few days recently. Mr. and Mrs. Hcndrickson and family left for a two-week vaca tion in South Dakota. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Prathcr and family are visiting in California. They are taking a two-week vaca tion. Visitors at the Frank Wade home were Ernest Wade and family. They went to Hood River to visit relatives and pick up their oldest daughter who had flown up at the beginning of the summer to visit with her grandparents. The E. Arrives Here Miss Florence Gibson of Portland has arrived here to visit her hrother-in-law and sister, Mr, and Mrs. Clay Cornctt. They will take her back to Port land Friday and will remain there over the holiday weekend visiting relatives and friends. Returns To Seattle Mrs. A. P. Snyder has returned to her home in Seattle, following several days spent at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Noel. While here, Mrs. Snyder cared for her three grandchildren, Vircinia. John and Danny, while their parents made a trip to Port land. Visit In Roseburg Major and Mrs. Richard Kelly and children, John and Betty, visited in Rose burg Saturday with the former's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed win L. Knapp, on East l.anc Street. They are en route to Groat Kails, Mont., where Major Kelly is at tached to the Army Air Force Base. Mrs. Kelly and children spent the last couple of months visiting relatives in San I.eandro, Calif., and were recently joined there by Major Kelly. Enjoy Stay At Coast Mrs. Hen ry Bailey and children have re turned here, following a vacation at coastal points. Mr. and Mrs. Railey plan to go to the coast later this week for a vacation. Visiting Here Air. and Mrs. Frank Michalek of Seattle are vis iting at the home of their son and daughter-in-law. Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Michalek. A highlight of their visit was a day spent fishing at Winchester Bay. Here From Illinois A. Stortz man of New Effingham, III., is visiting at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Salmonson. Many inter esting visits have been made to areas close to Roseburg during his slay here. Returns To Portland Miss Mil dred Miller has returned to her home in Portland, after spending several days in Roseburg as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Metz ger. Miss Miller was a special nurse to Mrs. Metzger, while the latter was a patient at Good Samar itan Hospital. SPOKANE, Wash. LB Two in mates of the Eastern State Hos pital at Medical Lake, one of them a ringleader in the July, riot at the state penitentiary at Walla Walla, overpowered an attendant Sunday night and escaped. The men were identified as Herman Shatter, 35, and James Eiland, 35, both described as very dangerous. Salter was charged last Saturday with kidnaping, conspiracy to kid nap and prison rioting in connec tion with the state prison riot. Dr. M. M. Campbell, superin tendent at the hospital, said the two men overpowered an attend ant, tied him up and took his keys. Salter was transferred to the hospital last month for mental observation. - Father of the U.S. -style agricul tural fair is said to be Elkanah Watson, who began holding "cat tle shows" in Pittsfield, Mass., in 1810.
