W. B. Wliitcly, president of the National 1'otalo Council, saiu tnc surplus was cauVd by ideal grow ing conditions in the major pro ducing states. Top experts from the U.S. De partment of Agriculture were in vited to attend the two-day meet ing of representatives of some 60, 000 commercial growers. Whitely expressed hope that the growers can work out a solution "that will protect the farm in comes of a large portion of Amer ica's food producers and at the same time give the consumer the price benefit of a good year's production."
