Sat., Aug. 13, 1955 Donrvwav HOMECOMING IS LARGE AFFAIR SUNDAY One of the largest affairs ever held in the Brockway commun ity was the homecoming-school reunion Sunday at the Douglas Hiiih School. A crowd of 400 jam med the school cafeteria for the delicious dinner. Feople trom many towns in Oregon, Washing ton, Idaho, Arizona and California joined in the 100th anniversary celebration of the district's found ing. Since the affair was such a success, it wil lbe held again next August. Zopher Agee of Hertford was master of ceremonies. He taught the old Brockway School in ld&8. Mrs. Ben Nichols, Riddle, ' was presented a pen by the Roseburg Jewelers for being the oldest ex student at the centennial. She is 86. The eldest person attending the celebration was Alvira (Huntley) Dumond of The Dalles. She is 98. She never attended the old school but many of her people did. There were more than 100 histor ies of the district and other cen tury old stories distributed. These histories were prepared by Shcr ley Clayton, a graduate of the old ex-student, made the copies. GLIDE COUPLE MARRIED IN SAN DIEGO and Mrs. Jack Rardin of Rose burg, and Guy Neal Mullin Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mullin of Glide, were married July 9 at 6 p.m. at the U.S. Naval Training School Chapel at the San Diego Naval Base. Chaplain the Rev. Donald Kirk bride, performed the ceremony. Mrs. Donald Kirkbride attended the bride, and Don Hill of Glide, - also in training at the Naval base, was best man. The bride wore a blue nvlon gown, ballerina length with white accessories. The bride groom wore dress blues. Guests at the wedding were all of Mullin's buddies at the Talcman School at the hase. Guy ("Skip") Mullin and Don Hill, both graduates of Glide High School, enlisted in the Navy in January 1955. The couple spent a honeymoon at Imperial Beach, Calil. Dinner Party Honors Mrs. George E. Houck To compliment Mrs. George E. Houck, who left this week with her husband for Portland to reside, a charming no-hostess dinner was enjoyed Wednesday evening at the Hotel Rose. Covers were placed for the guest of honor and Mrs. George Mangas and daughter, Sally; Mrs. Lena Geier, Mrs. Hil da Peterson, Mrs. Paul Geddcs, Mrs. V. V. Harpham, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wiley and Mr. and Mrs. James R. Daugherty. A beautiful hand-woven stole was presented as a gift by the group to Mrs. Houck. MRS. MICELLI IS HOSTESS AT PARTY Mrs. R. HEBARD HOSTS LUTHERAN LADIES AID The Ladies' Aid of St. Paul's Lutheran Church met Thursday evening at the lovely new home of Mrs. Roy Hebard with Mrs. Bert Fiksdal as co-hostess. Beau tiful arrangements of spring flow ers graced the rooms. The' meet ing was opened by the president, Mrs. Lewis Wilson, with group singing of the hymn "In the Cross of Christ I Glory." Final plans were formulated for a rummage sale to be held at the Roseburg Woman's Clubhouse Satur day, doors to open at 8 a.m. Mrs. Teater and Mrs. Buckingham are co-chairmen. A very successful annual cleaning day was held at the church and parish house Sat urday. Mrs. Don Stapleton report, ed that the drapery project for the parish house is now completed and she thanked all who helped in any way. Reports were given by the July visiting committee and also by the quilt committee. A record book was purchased where in will be recorded all memorials and gifts donated to the church, and a guest book was donated by a mem ber for use in the church to re cord visitors- Mrs. Don Stapleton led a very lively and informative question, answer and discussion lesson on family worship in the home. The meeting closed with prayer. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses to fifteen members and guests. The Mid week Bible class will be held Aug. 24 at the home fo Mrs. E. V. The nominating commit tee appointed includes Mrs. Roy W. Sedell, Mrs. H. C. Stearns and Mrs. C. D. Albright. Oct. 6 was set as the date as the annual fall guest day bridge-luncheon at the clubhouse. The weekly 12 o'clock luncheon was held Thursday at the club house followed by the contract bridge play. High score was won by Mrs. H. C. Stearns with Mrs. M. L. Hallmark winning second high and Mrs. James Hughes win ning third. TUTHILL HOSTS KNITTING CLUB MEMBERS The Tuthill home was the scene of a one thirty o'clock dessert luncheon, when Mrs. Cecile Tut hill entertained her knitting club at her home west of Sutherlin. Those enjoying the afternoon with Mrs. Tuthill were Mesdames Helen Coor, Mary Buckbee, Eve lyn Frotscher, Laura Larson, Mary Reisenweber and Ethel Dies. Work for the afternoon was knitting on various articles. MISSOURI VISITOR HONORED AT PICNIC Mrs. Arta Terrel was hostess re cently at a picnic dinner at Ump qua Park in honor of her mother, Mrs. Cora Moore, of Roscoe, Mo who has been visiting various rel atives here for several weeks. Rattlesnake Killed Lester Pierce, Dick Stone and J Pinard killed a three-foot long rattlesnake with 7 rattles near Tyee last Sun day while fishing in the main Ump qua River. Improving George Grimm is reported to be improving at Mercy Hospital, where he has been re ceiving medical treatment for the past two weeks. He expects to be there another few days. Olson of Malaca, Minn., and Anna Sjogren, who is in this country on a visit from Sweden, arrived in Roseburg Thursday for a visit with the 01 sos' son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. Lester G. Olson, who have just moved here. Mrs. Sjogren is an aunt of the Rev. Lester Olson. The latter is the new pastor of Faith Lutheran Church.
