The eight-pound, two-ounce boy is their first child but Ferraro's ninth. This is Ferraro's third marriage. Mr. and Mrs. 0. O. Matthews attended to business Wednesday in Oakland. Visiting the Elvin Lutmans fjr a monlh was Mrs. Nora Koikow of Medford who left Tuesday for her home. She is a sister of Lutman and plans to join her husband soon in Utah where he is mining urani um. Mrs. Amy Sceley has returned to her homo on Critser Road from a visit in Portland wilh Mr, and Mrs. Henry Crister and with Mrs. Etta Ward a former local resident. Mis. Gene Potriquin and three children nro staying at the Ray Petnquin home. The Ray Petrc quins are helping care for the new grand daughter, Paula Tnne, born to Mr. and Mrs. Gene Petri- quin, July 30. GEORGE MUNSON The main guy wire used in the bean patch at the Mobley ranch at Umpqua broke Tuesday night letting the entire seven acres of beans fall. About ISO pickers have been working here and it was for tunate that no one was in the field when it happened. The men of the community raised them a row at a time. Sev eral tons of beans will be lost but they plan to have it ready for the pickers by Friday. Visit Fritnds Miss Peggy Murphy and Miss Kay Miller of Canyonville spent several days recently at the Elm er Ellison home in Yoncalla. Miss Norma Peery and Miss Barbara Mohr of Umpqua are at tending 4-H summer camp at Camp Myrllewood near Bridge. Mrs. Dclorne Heny and Mrs. Shirley Brown drove to Ashland where they, plan to see the plays being put on there. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Long and children, Memoric, Joe and Pat rick, have been house guests at Yachats at the beacn home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fest of Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. John Bacon made an interesting trip last week. They flew to Coquille where they were the guests of Mr. and. Mrs. Louns- bury. From there they drove to Gold Beach where they took a boat excursion up the Rogue Riv er to Agness. Jack Liles who was taken to a Eugene Hospital last week under went surgery and is reported to be improving satisfactorily. Mr. and Mrs. v.. p. Kronn from Mollala have been house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mode on their ranch on Mode Lane. Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Webb and children, Carolyn, Loretta and Randy, were dinner guests at tne home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom My ers recently. Mr. and Mrs. JS. H. Branton of Umpqua and Mrs. H. M. Whittle of Duluth, Minn., (sister of Mrs. Branton) left Thursday for a va cation trip to southern California. They plan to visit another sister, Mrs. C. Cavanaugh in Los Ange les then with a son in North Hol lywood, James Branton, then go to Norco at the home of another son, Clyde Branton. They will then go to Carmel where they will spend a few days with another sister, Mrj. Maude Gyllen. They will end their trip at the home of their daughter in San Francis co, Mrs. W. P. Queck. Return Home Mr. and Mrs.' Laverne Murphy returned home from their trip to Minnesota. They stopped in North Dakota and Idaho on their way back. Mr. and Mrs. John Shindledeck er and children, Deborah and John, from Idaho Falls, Idaho, are house guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Cooper at Ump qua. The two families were neigh bors in Hawaii where they were stationed during the war. Shindle decker is now attending school preparatory for a commission on the submarine, Nautilius, to which he plans to return at the end of his vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Mode have been vacationing in the northern part of the state. They drove to Molalla and were guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Krohn. At Eagle Creek they visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mode and at Dufur they were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Guy Douglass. They returned by the Mt. Hood High way. Standly Long caught two large bob cats and a coyote on his ranch near Umpqua recently. The predia tors had killed goats. Sunday afternoon 12 members of the Umpqua 4-H Livestock club made a tour of the homes of its members who have projects that they plan to show at the Douglas County Fair.
