GARDEN CLUB PLANS FOR FAIR DISPLAYS 1 The regular monthly meeting of the Riverbend Garden Club was held Thursday at the home pf Mrs. Marshall Smith Guests of the evening were Mrs, C. J. Bielman, director of Ump qua District of the Oregon Fed eration of Garden uubs; ana Mrs. L, F. Stearns, assistant director. A very interesting and informa tive talk on club work was given by Mrs. Bielman. Mrs. Austin Drake gave an interesting report on her trip to the state convention of federated garden clubs, which was held in Portland in June. Plans were made for a display for the flower show at the Doug las County Fair. Mrs. Walter W Hobbs was named chairman of the staging committee. Mrs. Hans Stelzenmueller was named chair man of a committee for a rum mage sale to be held in the near future. The next meeting win ne held at the home of Mrs. Steve Fowler, 1429 Bodie Lane, Thurs day, August 4. OLALLA HALL IS SCENE OF MEETING Busy Steppers Club met at the Olalla Community Hall recently at a delicious potluck luncheon at noon. Berniece Parker was host ess. Games and visiting were en joyed. Jackson St CIRCUS PRESENTED AT GREEN HOM6 , The all-kid circus presented by youngsters of Castle Street in the Engdahl garage Thursday was a decided success. The children pre sented eleven acts ot trapeze dance routines, two skits, baton demonstrations and accordion numbers. Cookies, popcorn and coolade were on sale, and a goon sized crowd of parents and chil dren attended. Main performers were Judy Lovelady, Mary Lou Engdahl, JoAnne Thomas, Sandy Six, JNancy Hester and Susan tng dahl. SUTHERLIN PNG HAS POTLUCK SUPPER A no hostess potluck supper was held Tuesday evening, when the Past Noble Grand's Club met at the IOOF Hall. It was announced the Mart had been moved from the Green building to the IOOF Hall and that it would be closed for two weeks. A social hour of games was enjoyed with prizes being award ed the winners. Mabel Ross won both the door prize and the penny prize. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 2, with Mrs. Alma Anderson as hostess. THETA RHO GIRLS HAVE SKATiNii PARTY A skating party was enjoyed by Gamma Delta Theta Rho Girls, Thursday evening at the Rolletta Skating Rink at Roseburg. Those attending were Barbara Coe, Neva Stribling, Cheryl Vandenberg, Lois Brannon, Peggy Jean Austin, Pamela ' Eggleston, Barbara and Janet Haslam, Mildred Williams, Maurine Mullens and Larry Van denberg. Taking cars were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Vandenberg, Mr. Harold Austin and Kenneth Coe. COMMUNITY PICNIC HELD AT CALAPOOIA The Calaoooia Farm Bureau sponsored a community picnic on the calapooia clubhouse grounds on the Fourth. The tables were set under -the trees where 75 enjoyed dinner. Games for the young and old were played in the afternoon, ana square dancing enjoyed later. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Burdette were chairman of the affair. MONTANA PICNIC SET AT GRANTS PASS The Montana picnic will be held Sunday in the Grants Pass City Park- All those interested are in vited. All members are urged to attend. Another 720,000 Salk Polio Shots , Ordered Released WASHINGTON Wl The govern ment Tuesday released an addi tional 720,000 shots of polio vac cine. It was produced by Lu Lilly Co., Indianapolis. The Public Health Service said the new release brings to 2,558,000 cubic centimeters (shots) the total vaccine released since adoption of the revised testing standards on May 26. . A spokesman said the Lilly vac cine was in process at the time the new tests were adopted, and was retested under the revised standards. The spokesman said all of this vaccine would go to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis for its free program of vaccinat ing first and second grade school children. He said he did no know to what parts of the country the foundation would assign the vac cine. In another development Tuesday, j Senate and House committees unanimously approved separate to some groups of children and ex pectant mothers. Multi-Millionaire Buys Huge Ranch On Molokai HONOLULU IP George Mur phy, multi millionaire Honolulu automobile dealer, probably will sell his 11,000 acre ranch at Pros pect, Ore-, now that he has bought the 13.700 acre Puu-O-Hoku ranch on Molokai Island for $300,600, an officer of his company said Mon day night. Murphy, president of Aloha Mo tors, is in New York. His com pany's treasurer, Robert Ching. said Murphy bought the Molokai place "in order to have a ranch a little closer to home." Murphy bought the ranch from the Lucy K. Ward estate, which needed the money to pay inherit ance tax. The Ward estate bought the ranch nearly 10 years ago from Paul Fagan, Maui hotelman and former owner of the San Francisco Seals, for $473,278. j Prospect, in Jackson County, is on the Rogue River.
