Plans then call for her entry in the girl's national tourney which will be held later in the summer. The Kabler gal is batting 1.000 for two campaigns this summer, champion of the state junior wom en for a second straight time and a first time winner of the state women's title hardware. Now, Carole Jo can either stay on the same scenic tour year after year or she can change street cars the ones that climb the hills. The gals' national will be a good test. The progress of the Carole Jo lass is good reading. It starts in the autumn of 1952 with her entry in Hie Southern Oregon Open her first major tournament. She was runnerup in that one. She won the junior girl's title in a Medford tourney to start the 1953 season and then came in sec ond to Sue PeVoe in the girl's slate tourney. She caught the headlines in June. 1953 by quali fying for the PNWGA women's tourney and defeating the state of Washington women's amateur champ, Jean Perry, 1 up. In the Southern Oregon Open she was runnerup to Mrs. Davies a second time running. The year of 1954 was the turn ing point: She won the state gal's trophy over Sue DeVoe and final ly caught Mrs. Davies on the 26th hole in the Southern Oregon Open to win that one. She was runnerup to Mrs. Rowell in state women's 0(!A tournament and had to wait until seven days ago to catch here She won the Portland City title for women in '54 also. That just about makes the re plete story complete. There's no idling who Sutherlin's Carole Jo will draw in the first round for the gal's national, providing of course she qualifies. In Olympics PORT TOWNSEND, Wash, tfl Philip Padelford of Seattle will be the Aio. 2 man for the United States in Dratfon sailing boat rac ing in the 1956 Olympic Gaines. But he wilt compete only if' the No. 1 boater is unable to go to Australia. Padelford earned the runnerup berth Thursday with a victory in the fifth heat in three days of trials on Port Townsend Bay. Eu gene Walet III, of New Orleans, the North American amateur sail ing champion, took the No. 1 spot Wednesday. PadeUord's victory Thursday gave him 2,987 points. Art Arm strong, also of Seattle, was next with 2:339. Walet's winning total was 4,719. Tommy Heath, Manager Of Seals Gets Suspension ' SAN FRANCISCO I Tommy Heath, San Francisco Seals man ager, is taking a three-day vaca tion in the first suspension in his nine-year career as a baseball club manager. Claire Goodwin, Pacific Coast League president, called the sus pension "just a little vacation." Heath also was fined $50. "Tommy's OK," Goodwin said Thursday night. "He's a good fel low. But he gets a little too excited at times." What excited Heath in Sunday's game with San Diceo here was umpire Al Mulart calling Al Toar mina put in a close play at first.
